Jada Boyd of ARGS sets single-game state records with 69 points, 33 rebounds
Jada Boyd, a 6-foot-2 junior forward for Appomattox Regional GS, scored a Virginia High School League-record 69 points in a 79-77 overtime loss at Franklin on Wednesday.
“She did it every kind of way possible,” said ARGS coach Eric Brower. “It was an excellent all-around effort.”
Boyd also grabbed a VHSL-record 33 rebounds for the Dragons. She went 12 of 21 from the foul line and made six 3-pointers, three of which came consecutively to end regulation and send the game to OT.
Brower said Franklin switched its defensive formation multiple times, and eventually Boyd was scoring despite three defenders guarding her. Boyd scored 22 points in the third quarter.
For good measure, Boyd also blocked 10 shots.
“She came out ready to play,” said Brower. “She was exhausted. She played hard. She tried to put the team on her back.”
Earlier this season, Boyd had a stretch of three straight 40-point games.
The previous record of 68 points was set by Karen Drewry of I.C. Norcom in 1982, according to the VHSL record book. The previous mark for rebounds (28) was set by Sam Brunelle of William Monroe in 2016.
