Riverheads' Macey Snyder hit a three pointer with seven seconds left in overtime to lift the Gladiators to an exciting 51-50 victory over Shenandoah District and Augusta County rival Buffalo Gap Tuesday evening. The win lifts Riverheads to a 5-0 start to the season, 2-0 in district play.

Emma Casto scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Gladiators. Fellow senior Blake Bartley added a season-high 12 points. Leah Calhoun led the Lady Bison (1-1 in district and 2-3 overall) with a game-high 17. Marybeth Strickler added 11.

Buffalo Gap jumped out to an early 5-0 but Riverheads began pounding the ball inside to Alex Garcia and Casto and taking a 16-14 lead after the first eight minutes. Gap's Calhoun hit a three midway through the second period to give the Bison a 21-20 lead. Buffalo Gap went on to take a 24-22 lead into the locker room at half.

Buffalo Gap looked to take control of the game in the third period limiting Riverheads to just two field goals while taking a nine-point lead (37-28) going into the final frame. However, the Gladiators defense limited Calhoun to just one FG in the final frame while Christa Arehart and Snyder each hit a three while the rest of the team hit 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. And after Casto scored inside with 10 seconds left to tie it up, Buffalo Gap wasn't able to get a good shot off and the game went into overtime.

Bartley scored first in overtime but Strickler scored two field goals in overtime to help Gap take a 50-48 lead. After stoping the Bison from extending the lead and taking a timeout, Riverheads set up a play that found Snyder open deep on the left wing and she nailed the jumper. Buffalo Gap took the ball down court but immediately turned it over and the Gladiators ran out the clock for the win.

Riverheads travels to East Rockingham Thursday evening.
