There is a lot of talk about a Battle of the Unbeatens possibly coming up in varsity football, but assuming Buffalo Gap did its job tonight against Wilson (couldn't find a score yet) there will be a similar battle at Riverheads next Wednesday the 30th when the Bison tangle with the Junior Gladiators. The Gladiators held up their end of the "unbeaten" part tonight by routing Staunton 40-12 in Gypsy Hill Park. Ironically the Bison defeated the Junior Storm by that exact score on the same field last week, which gives you a good idea as to how evenly-matched the two teams will be.

For tonight's game, the most impressive thing was the support Riverheads had for an away game. I would say the Gladiator fans outnumbered the home team by at least a 5-1 margin, and maybe more than that. And those fans certainly got their money's worth as a quartet of Gladiator running backs had their way with the Storm. David Austin, Luke Bryant, Kayden Cook-Cash, and Logan Hostetter took turns running around and quite often directly OVER the Staunton defense, as each player contributed at least a touchdown or a two-point conversion. When the starters were rested in the fourth quarter, the second-string offense took over and drove in for the Big Red's fifth TD of the evening, with Hunter Long getting the honors. The Gladiators were a perfect 5 for 5 on two-point conversions.

After being held scoreless in the first half, Staunton did enjoy some success through the air in the second half, especially with the combination of Walker Darby to Kayden Jackson, which produced the first SHS touchdown. In the final minute of the contest, Kysean Banks scored on a long run to complete the scoring.

For unknown reasons, the game was shortened tonight as they only played eight-minute quarters instead of the usual ten. Fans noticed it from the beginning and the Riverheads coaches made at least an attempt between the first and second quarters to point it out but nothing was ever changed. Of course it did not make any difference in the outcome but was puzzling nevertheless.

So fans, come on out to Greenville next Wednesday night for what promises to be a dandy. You can still have your big Halloween bash the next night and of course make the varsity game out at the Gap on Friday. Of course first things first as the Gladiator varsity will be entertaining Staunton later today in a 7:00 kickoff in Greenville.

Gap lost to Wilson 35-22. Must have been a different Wilson team the Big Red played or Gap had an off night. That ones a real head scratcher to me.

Where was the Wilson game at? Since the game was at Gap and Wilson Varsity coaches weren't there to involve themselves, I can see it. I watched the Wilson JV handle Spotswood JV for the whole first half at the hive until the brain trust showed up only to have the tides turn completely and Spotswood roll in the second half. They looked like a different team in the second half and it wasn't just adjustments by the other team. Time to call it like it is. Wilson will be horrible until a coaching change is made. They can change the offense, defense and/or uniforms and it is not going to matter. Sorry to get on a different level with the review of that game but its silly to keep beating around the bush about what the issue is at that school.

I agree they have enough talent every year they should be competing for the district title on a regular basis. I will never forget they had a couple good years and the News leader ran an article comparing Major to Casto. That is laughable. Haha

The Varsity team will return most of its starters next year. 5 of our losses have come to the top 5 teams in the Valleys top 7 poll. The other to Page. The losses have come from teams whose combined record is 37-5. Three of the losses should have been wins.
This team returns most of its starters next year. It should be one of the top teams because we are so young but without changes, I think it will be the same. I could give multiple examples but like mama said, if you don't have anything good to say, don't say nothing.

The grumbling is becoming loud in Fishersville I am not sure it can go on for long. Glad I no longer have a son on the team but I will always be a Hornet.

@WilsonFootball, trust and believe I have no ill will towards the young men that play their hearts out in Fishersville. As I have stated many times I know plenty of them and want them to be successful. I just think it’s painfully obvious that kids won’t come out for him and the ones that do are not utilized in an effective manner. Having a son still at Wilson but that refuses to play for that bunch is disappointing. He stated his reasons why and that is all I needed to turn me completely against the staff. Year and year out they have a fair amount of talent but seem lost when facing the area teams. I wish the best for them but until a change is made, 3-7 maybe 4-6 is what the record looks like for foreseeable future.

@RedPrideNation_RollPride I was confirming your post. I know who you are, I have seen you at a quite a few Wilson Events. What you are saying about the situation is correct. I agree with your assessment. You actually are more informed about what is going on with our team than others, so absolutely no argument here on what you posted.

@Baseball215 I didn't say you guys didn't. The difference is you both are undefeated and we are struggling. You both do lose a few key starters where as we pretty much will return everyone. Draft has 2 Backers you don't replace, and you guys have some Biguns and a back that will leave a hole. The QB spot seems to be covered, but you guys don't need one of them anyway. There is no doubt that both Draft and Riverheads will be very good again next year. I think Draft may actually be better next year if they can replace Branch and Watkins. Both of those kids are players.

As far as Wilson goes, it's pretty frustrating to see what is going on. We may be going the Waynesboro route for different reasons if something doesn't change. I do not blame the Coaches in Waynesboro. They are in a much tougher spot than we are. Ours seem to be self inflicted.

Don't know him, but by chance does he have a young man on the Varsity Team ?

If he can help Gap beat the little Red Team and the Casto Crusade then he needs to be coaching a part of the Gladiators ! What little I have seen of the JV team , he has a major task on his hands . I will have to see this one . jmo

I agree. I know he wanted to help with the Red Team but for whatever reason wasnt given an opportunity. Wish he could have helped , IMO hes a good coach and good with the kids, not saying the JV coaches arent good just wished he could have kept coaching The Big Red. Hate to see him go to a rival.

No dog in this fight and I'm no fighter.i can tell you from a brother in law who officiates in their area and lives in Lexington, he's always told me Wilson Memorial is at the top end of talent in that district. I have not seen them in many years or this year and know nothing about their individual players or coaches, but I'm going by what one guy who is close to me tells me, and he has them 2, sometimes 3 times a year.
