While the fans were busy chasing their blown-off caps and huddling to keep warm, Riverheads and Page tried to fight their way through a brisk wind this afternoon in a Shenandoah District affair eventually won by RHS 4-2. The win keeps the Big Red unbeaten on the year.

Since JH may yet come on with his report and stats, I will just hit the highlights. Kyle Bishop went the distance for Riverheads and had a no-hitter going into the 7th. However, to their credit, the Panthers did not go quietly as they strung together three hits within about a 90 second span and plated two runs to shave a 4-0 deficit in half to make things briefly interesting. But fittingly, Bishop ended the game himself by hustling over to get the final out on a short pop-up just to the right of the mound.

For quite a while, it appeared that we might have a 1-0 final as the Gladiators took that lead into the fifth inning. But Page committed a couple of errors in the home half of that frame that allowed the Big Red to plate three insurance runs. As it turned out, they would need them.

The Gladiators are scheduled for another game today (Tuesday) at Wilson but most folks say we will have so much rain that it won't happen. Whenever that one is played, hopefully the Hornets won't be wearing the same hitting shoes they had on last Friday when they blasted Stuarts Draft 13-2 for their first win of the season.
