Game Recap Godwin Shoots Hampton to PenSouth title Game

The Hampton Crabbers and Bethel Bruins will meet for a 3rd time this season after both teams advanced to the PenSouth Conference 10 championship game with semi-final wins.

Bethel took care of Gloucester in the 1st game. In the second semi-final matchup, Hampton trailed Kecoughtan early but they pulled away in the second half for a 56-37 win. Old Dominion recruit Marquis Godwin scored 14 of his 16 points in the 2nd half to lead the Crabbers.

Kecoughtan led 10-4 early and led 14-10 after the 1st quarter. But the Warriors went cold making only four baskets while scoring only 12 combined points in the two middle quarters. They trailed Hampton 38-26 heading into the final period.

Godwin found his stroke after the halftime break. Back-to-back baskets midway thru the 3rd quarter gave the Crabbers a 34-22 lead. Godwin opened the 4th quarter with a three to give Hampton a 41-26 lead and he added two more buckets to finish with 16 points. Matthias Caver added 11 points and nine rebounds and Norfolk State commit Mastadi Pitt was good for 10 points and four rebounds.

Kecoughtan was led by senior point guard Keith Grandy who scored 12 points. The Warriors missed all their 3-point attempts. Delonte Cooper had six points and eight rebounds but was held scoreless in the second half. Junior Bryant Randleman was limited to only four points on four free throws.
