I know the kids probably aren't even home yet from the semis today but wanted to get the discussion started. Two incredible teams that deserve to be here and earned HARD fought wins over Glenvar and Poquoson. Really think any of those four could have won it all with the right bounces.

I feel like Graham is a little more dynamic offensively than Strasburg - but of course this game will be won in the trenches where both teams are stout. Graham has the experience but this has the feel of a dream season for Strasburg. Would be surprised if this isn't close either way. I'm leaning toward Graham due to their experience in this game but Strasburg will come ready. Let's hear some thoughts!

I'm comin down winstin salim with ribs beer and bag of cheetos. If Gmen got beet I cant excep it and got2go to hospital cauz Gmen football is my life dog! Strasville hitz hard like da Barz in Union so we got2hitem hard 2 and sumthins got2give Dedazzz

If they’re like the Bears, they’ll definitely be hitting hard back! Sounds like slobber knocker in Salem next Saturday!

Graham has the tradition behind them whereas Strasburg will be the new kid on the block. In those situations, experience usually wins out, but there is something very special about those Rams so I will not be surprised if they pull it off.

I think it’s 50/50 toss up which is what I said about Graham/Glenvar game. Should be a slugfest which is what a state championship should be!

Watching Strasburg/Poquoson game, Graham’s defensive staff is going to have to game plan well to stop that run with all the misdirection that goes on in the Strasburg backfield. Long sustained drives keeping Graham offense off the field would very much be in Strasburg’s favor in my opinion. If there’s any defensive staff that can come up with a game plan to stop them, Graham has one of the best. This Graham team has a lot of experience with deep playoff runs. Most of these Seniors and Juniors were part of the 2022 Championship team. Hopefully if every other thing being equal, experience on the big stage benefits Graham.

I'm with the OP. I've been impressed with Strasburg all season. They sure ran a gauntlet through Region B and beat a very strong Poquoson team. But Graham has that big game experience and that could be the difference. It's setting up like the 2007 Fiesta Bowl of Oklahoma (Graham) vs. Boise St. (Strasburg). If the Rams can show the G-men something they haven't seen, we're in for a real show.

Graham definitely hasn't seen an offense like that. Graham's defense has brought them to this game. It'll be interesting to see if they can adjust to a different style of play

Yeah, the defense will prove this week if they can adjust & do what’s needed to win. They’ve been lights out for the most part but they haven’t faced a team with this type of offense. They need to play near perfection to win or Region B takes the title.

Strasburg will need to play to near perfection as well in order to win and their margin for error is smaller than Grahams. What's scary about Graham is 2 things. First, it's the offense and that's right, the offense. It's the balance on offense.

Graham's offense may not be as overwhelming as Grahams past few years, but their offense might actually be as balanced as its ever been. I would bet if you look at Grahams total yards this year, the difference in passing and rushing yards would be less, or as close to another than in the past 5 years.

Second, Graham won a game that most teams don't win in the semi's. They had 3 starters out on Defense and 2 in the secondary from what I read. Thats about 30 percent of the starting defense that did not play. They had 4 turnovers and one was the deep turnover in their own territory which can be a game killer. The formula with injuries and turnovers for a team to lose in the state semis was there, yet they still won. That's scary. You have to be elite to overcome and win a game like that.

Going to be a close game. I think the teams are close, but Grahams A game beats Strasburgs A game. Strasburgs A game beats Grahams B game. The team Graham is playing is not as good as King William in 2021, but is better than the Central Woodstock team of 2022, and rests somewhere in the middle. Makes it a toss up game for Graham vs Strasburg I think.

Definitely 50-50 toss up, probably be the closest game of all the classes in my opinion. Graham can’t have four turnovers and beat Strasburg though, as least it’s a very low probability. I’m definitely pulling for a GMen win.

I think it's going to be a war with the g men, should be a really good and physical game, Graham's d is stout, and Strasburg running will consume a lot of clock, this game will be decided by whose coaching staff can make adjustments during the game

Strasburg needs to run it well enough to kill clock and have the game neck and neck or even have a lead in the late 3rd qtr and limit Grahams offensive possessions. Don't believe what you hear about Grahams offense. They have 3 or 4 guys that can house it from anywhere on the field. Graham needs to stop Strasburg by not allowing long drives that kill clock which allows Grahams playmakers on offense more possessions for those athletic 40 and 50 yard explosive plays. I don't see Graham driving the field on the Rams. Their offensive production will come with big plays/out athleting the opponent type plays.

If Graham has 4 turnovers like last week, they lose. After watching Strasburg and Poquoson, I think Poquosons A game is better than Strasburgs A game. The best team is defined by who brings its A game when it matters most because the playoffs offer no do-overs. This is why Strasburg beat Poquoson. It's why the rolled Riverheads and Buckingham. The best team brings its A game when it matters most and the best Class 2 team in the East is in the title game for that reason. Graham better bring its A game because it appears Strasburg is going to bring its A game and just not beat themselves. That pattern has become pretty clear with Strasburg for weeks on end and they just arent beating themselves. Graham had a fumbled kickoff return and Glenvar gave it right back to Graham a play or 2 later. Strasburg won't do that. They will capitalize on it.

Turnovers will decide the Class 2 Champion

I watched the game on the network on sat, there band sounds great and gets the fans pumped up
Great band! They really help the crowd get going at games. In 2022, the year the band started that “You don’t want to go to war with the GMen” , Tony Palmer made sure the band director, Dr. Hess, also received a state championship ring.

That post was my attempt at humor, responding to the comment about thinking it's going to be a war with Graham's band playing . You don't wanna go to war with the G-men. I'll keep my day job.

Lots of interesting takes on this game so far. I think everyone is agreement on a few things though. Grahams D is very good, Strasburg likes to control the clock, Graham has more athleticism, Strasburg has just enough diversity to keep you honest, and the list could go on. The long and short is that these are both very good teams with very few weaknesses if any when they both play their best. The experience edge may shift this to Grahams side on a weird exchange or some odd play as they have seen a lot of these things in pressure games. That isn't meant as a slight to the Rams but coaching this deep in the playoffs consistently does tend to bear fruit when these one off events happen in big games.

The G-men have talent in numerous spots and simply seem to have more players on the field than you can cover or block at times (lots of speed and awareness). The Achilles heel on defense if there truly is one, is that is sometimes players are slightly out of position only because they know they can generally recover better than the other team can attack an area. You dont have the defensive season this group has had without sound fundamentals and tons of athletes. Much respect to the coaches and players on the defensive side of the ball. On offense I think there is some challenges because the pieces dont always look like they go together. As an example, at times there is great pass blocking but inconsistent route running, or motor grader run blocking with backs cutting a heartbeat too soon. It's hard to imagine but the ceiling for this team is even higher and that says a lot for a state finalist.

The Rams are the definition of assignment football this season on the defensive side. I can't say they are flashy or extremely big, but they have been very good against the run so far this season. The only team that I personally know that had a passing attack was Fort and they basically took their very good receiver out of the game. While he had some catches, he was more or less a non-factor. So I wouldn't overlook their defense as a legit threat to control the game. On the offensive side the wide splits out of straight T is slightly unconventional but works with the lighter/faster offensive line Strasburg uses. Severe angle blocking is at a premium and that plays into the misdirection and eye candy in the backfield. The goal is to be at the LB level while they are in their read step and havent filled yet. Tough to do but when executed it is the recipe for 4 yards and a cloud of dust. That said there is enough of a passing threat most teams cant just load up tackle to tackle because then there is the speed pitch or TE dump down the seam.

All that said I think this is a close win by Graham with a punchers chance by Strasburg. My reservation on the Rams is that they have had several teams I thought were as good in recent years but had execution issues in the playoffs. I am a Rams fan this week and would love for them to win to finally end the stigma of region B not being state title caliber. Good luck to both teams and safe travels

50-50 even as to which team wins! Rams have a good a chance as GMen. I think both are coming to expecting to win. Graham players & coach staff have consistent big stage experience with all things equal, maybe that helps the GMen. I hope for a good game, no injuries for either team, & safe travels for everyone coming to Salem to watch what looks like to be the best game of all the classifications.

One difference the head coach. He loves his players and the players respect him and give it everything they got. Strasburg issue in the past was with players not really respecting the former coach

The kids at Graham absolutely love and respect their coaches and would run through a brick wall for them. Appomattox had / has that going for them with Coach Smith. I think the Graham kids respect all of their coaches, from the interviews after the games. Also, the coaches respect and love the players and want what's best for them. Here is a good article about one of Graham's coaches who goes above and beyond (which they all do).

That goes along ways with a team.
