Great Bridge still perfect

Great Bridge stayed undefeated and opened a 2-game lead in the Southeastern District by defeating Nansemond River 10-6 on Thursday night. The Wildcats scored all 10 of their runs in the first three innings .

Great Bridge was out-hit 10 to 8 but they also reached bases via five walks and two hit batters. Taylor Lane singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs and amazingly made it all the way home when the ball rolled past the center fielder to the fence.

Trevor Riggs homered to left-center to give Nansemond River a 5-3 lead. Great Bridge re-took the lead with RBI hits from Dane Smith and Charlie Cody. The Wildcats added four more runs with the help of three walks to start the third inning. The number nine hitter, Devin Grady, singled in two runs and Dane added his second RBI with a sacrifice fly. Chas Hinkle also had a sacrifice fly for an RBI.

Starting pitcher Logan Harrelson settle down a bit after the Warriors 4-run first inning to pickup his third win. Charlie Cody loaded the bases in the seventh but he got the final batter to fly out to right field.

Kieton Rivers tripled to score Riggs and scored on a single from Robert Fitzwater. Colin O'Brien drove in two runs with a single but he was thrown out while trying to advance to second base. The Warriors put three straight hits together in the fourth from Matt Boone, Trevor Riggs, and Brandon Savage to score a run that made the score 10-6. Riggs finished 3 -4 on the day including a homerun. He reached on an error in the 1st inning.
