Green Run High School has hired Alan Jones as its new Head Girls Basketball Coach, Student Activities Coordinator Ryan O'Meara confirmed to VirginiaPreps.com on Thursday.
Jones, who began his coaching career as a boys basketball assistant at Green Run, previously served as the Head Girls Basketball at Hampton High. In two seasons with the Lady Crabbers, he guided them to a 29-22 overall record, but cited logistical reasons for why he stepped down in late March. He lives in Suffolk and works in Virginia Beach.
"Coach Jones possesses a passion for the game of basketball," O'Meara stated in a release to VaPreps. "He brings 17 years of coaching experience at the high school and college level. We believe he is an excellent fit for our school and community."
At Green Run, Jones replaces Ebony Cherry, who stepped down after the 2014-15 campaign.
A Maryland native that attended Washington High School and St. Leo University, Jones served as an assistant girls basketball coach at First Colonial before landing his first job as a Head Coach at Lakeland in 2007.
