Gretna's first win over Altavista in several years.

First time in 6 yrs. Gretna has a real good girls team this year i hope they can go far I like there coach he's a great guy.They have been being teams pretty good this year . They beat ec glass twice and won the haifax tournment.

I was thinking that last time Gretna won was back in 98 or 99.

The Danville paper said this morning in article "20 years".

The 20 years mentioned in the Danville paper is wrong. Close, but wrong. In the fall of 1996 (back when Girls BB was played in the fall) Gretna beat Altavista three times; 45-42, 46-24 and 42-29 (in the district tournament). Gretna hosted a regional game that year and lost to Salem 53-50. That was the last real good Gretna team until now. Their record was 18-5. Bob Locust was the coach and Crystal Boyd, Kristy Crews, Amy Cook and Twyla Irvin were on the team. I'm real proud of the direction Coach Daniels has the team going. Hope to get to see them play Friday night.

Wow that's a long time !!! I was a 100 pounds lighter then lol !!

Gretna had a better team a couple years later, if my memory is correct. I recall we beat Rockbridge County or Rockingham County 82-78 in semi finals of Region 3 tournament to qualify for state tournament for first time in school history. We lost to Virginia High of Bristol in state quarterfinals. I think year was 1999. But I can't recall how we did against Altavista that year.
