Checked mapquest, 4 hours 28 minutes. That would be a good road trip. Better than going to Appomattox for a rematch.

LOL....You and which other fan Hampton? Wouldn't go that far by choice especially in the first round. Would be an ambush of the first magnitude especially against a team like Union...take your chances with Appo....and some other fans.

Come on HR6? We always had to come back to yall in playoffs? Ysll served us up too. Where in the heck yall get all them athletes in gretna is beyond me? Huge fan of vic hall...

I have to agree. I know rematches are often inevitable but I would rather play a new team in the 1st/2nd rounds of playoffs if possible. The playoffs are special in that it is win or go home. There is a certain feeling/excitement around playoffs. Playing Podunk High a few weeks earlier in the regular season kind of lessens the excitement in the earlier rounds of the chase for the title. Now the further you get in the playoffs, the less relevant it is who you are playing; the brass ring is getting closer by then.

Excellent observations marshall Dillon. I recall one year in which exactly half of all first round games were rematches from regular season. and half of those were rematches from just the previous week . That is totally stupid.

Well then what should be done is the team that lost in the regular season just forfeits that game then right HR6? Since there should never be rematches, then it is inevitable that the team that lost the 1st time would lose again correct? Oh wait, didn't a rematch happen last year with Giles/Glenvar? Giles won regular season, Glenvar won playoff game and state championship but they shouldn't have played. There are MANY more examples of this.

VHSL should design a playoff system that prevents rematches in first 2 rounds. Granted if 2 good teams are from same area, they could meet 'deep" in playoffs. The thing I hate most is first round rematches.

At the minimum VHSL should prevent rematches between district teams in first round.

I agree 100%. If you beat a team in regular season, you should not have to turn around and play them again in first round of playoffs. I cannot put into words how stupid/dumb/silly that is. Play someone else in first round.

I get what you guys are saying, but exactly how would you do this? Say Team A is #1 seed and Team B is #16 seed, how do you avoid the rematch? If you change somebody's seed, then that is effecting more than just those teams, and could cost a team down the road from having a home playoff game. I would love to hear a good thought out plan to prevent it, without effecting teams that it has nothing to do with

I believe the NFL has some rule in place to prevent teams from same division from playing in first round of playoffs.

Maybe VHSL could just switch lowest seeded team. Someone gets screwed in every playoff game now, one way or the other. Another screwing probably not hurt.

The only post season tournament that tries to avoid this is the NCAA basketball tournament but they have 68 teams to maneuver with.
You slot where you slot and you play who you play.

Trying to maneuver to avoid regular season matchups is stupid.
You don't like your spot win or lose more games

The NCAA does NOT do it for championship games
THE NFL doesn't does NOT do it for its playoffs

More HR being wrong.... imagine that.

The first round of the playoffs is dubbed the wild-card playoffs (or wild-card weekend). In this round, the third-seeded division winner hosts the sixth seed wild card, and the fourth seed hosts the fifth. There are no restrictions regarding teams from the same division matching up in any round.

I suggested just the first round, no team would lose a home playoff game that had earned it. Not much difference between 15th and 16th seeds anyway, and even if there was, who cares, no 1 seed should ever mind playing a 15 seed at home if that swap was needed, and if the 15 seed whined, then they should have just won more games, or just be happy to even be in the playoffs. Always a way to make things work if a majority of AD's want it changed for whatever reason.

You miss the point, the 15/16 seed it wouldn't matter, but you switch seeds for the 1st round, you have to keep them that way the entire playoffs. You can't say a team is a 7 seed this week then a 6 or 8 next week. So yes once you get them with a changed seed it COULD cost them a home game later in the playoffs.
