Big one in Southside has been moved to Saturday at 1 in SoBo. Don’t forget, Halifax has that stupid a$$ 1k person capacity rule so if you’re going, get there by 12 for the 1pm kickoff.

Unfortunately, Halifax hasn’t played anyone this year. It’s sad when you have to debate is their best win over a 2-4 “Tyler Johnson Warrior” team or a 2-5 Person team. I would probably say Person County. I like GW 49-35. Halifax has some darn good athletes. These guys actually beat a lot of these current GW players on JV. They run a fast paced offense that could surprise a top seeded team in the playoffs. If they played a stronger schedule, I’d say Halifax would be a problem this year. If they can get Glass and maybe one of the stronger Greensboro or Durham teams back on their schedule, it would help them out big time. Halifax is definitely on the rise.

Saying Halifax hasn't played anyone is still being too kind. They'll be totally unprepared for this game. If you're going to play a schedule where you coast most of the season (not your program's fault sometimes) you need to have those kids prepared for when they need to flip the switch when they face an actual team. Not sure Halifax is at that point yet. If they played Bassett (the only other good team on their schedule) this week and GW in week 9 then I think the game would be much closer but I just don't see it happening.

GW handily, minimum three scores.

I don't know if we can truly say that GW's schedule has been that much superior to Halifax's. Yes, they played Glass, but other than Glass only two of their opponents have winning records and both are 1 game over 500. I think that if Halifax can get past the way they look at GW and always think that they are going to lose, then this will be a very close game especially if Halifax can hang for awhile. Basically Halifax needs to take their basketball mindset vs GW and apply that to football.

I will say that GW ate up one of the best QBs in South Carolina. Carson Black has 6 power 5 offers (Tech, UNC, South Carolina, Louisville) and GW’s defense put a lot of pressure on him and picked him off 5 times. He’ll probably be the best player they see all year along with Tyler Johnson or Logan at Salem. Halifax hasn’t seen a Donavan Howard or Worm Poole. Those guys are big difference makers and I think they are a huge difference in a game like this. Halifax has size and athletes, however, their schedule is god awful. At least we can say, Glass is a Class 4 contender and GW had a chance to beat them.. Halifax hasn’t been challenged at all.

Martinsville was ahead of Halifax 16-14 halfway thru the 4th quarter and the Comets scored to make it 20-16 and held on to win. The Dogs battled the best they could against GW and lost 39-0. Just a little imformation

But that one game helps a lot. Beating a bunch of nobodies then playing a team that'll have a 12-13 game season is a big jump and even if it only takes Halifax a half to adjust, that could cost them the game. That's why I said if they played Bassett this week and GW in week 9 they'd have a better chance against GW because they'd be more up to speed (literally).

Glad I checked out this thread. For two reasons. First, I was seriously thinking about going to Halifax tonight, but my plans had already changed. But secondly that 1000 person limit will keep me away tomorrow. They have the right to set that limit, if they choose. Just like Petersburg has the right to say that mask and social distancing will be strictly enforced tonight. But I have the right to say, “ no thanks” and carry my happy ass somewhere else.

Lots of good games around tonight, but I’m going somewhere I’ve never been before, Amelia County High School. It won’t be a very competitive game, but it will be fun, none the less.

Should think about checking out the Buckingham/Nottoway game.

I thought about that Bo, but I’ve been there before.

This will only be the third new venue for me this season. I went to the grand opening of HSHS field, and I went to se Manchester at Powhatan.

I had hoped I would be a little less encumbered by my business this year so I could travel across Southside Virginia and SWVa. If I had Mike’s money, I could have been retired. But alas, alas, I slave on.

If I'm not mistaken in 2018 5-4 Halifax went to 7-2 GW and lost 16-6 and the score was only 9-6 late into the game and Halifax was driving to potentially tie or go ahead until GW scored on a pick 6. Everyone thought that would be a blow out too.

I'm not saying Halifax is going to win or even if I think the game will be close, I just think people place too much importance on each teams schedule and uncommon opponents.

As far as comparing the two Martinsville games, I could be wrong again, but I think that is the week that the Halifax players lost a fellow classmate, who was a friend and basketball teammate to many of the football players, to a very horrific car accident. That is very difficult for teenagers to deal with and have the right mindset to play a game a few days later.

2018 was the bad flood in Danville. City had no power for a couple of days. It was so bad, it displaced me for a couple of months while my home was worked on. It crippled GW’s season. They played 3 games in 6 days and they lost to Franklin County in an ugly low scoring game. Not an excuse but definitely different circumstances than now.

Well stated Ampipe. I was one of the many that thought Manchester would crush Midlothian last night. Based on what you said, schedule and uncommon opponents. Nope, didn’t happen.

And I doubt there were many other than the King William faithful that thought they had a chance against Lafayette. Well, the British hammered the French last night.

Also, out west, Union got absolutely taken to the cleaners by Central-Wise.
A fun night of football last night.

At last count, only 7 games had to be cancelled/postponed this week. And the average has been 20. So hopefully, by playoff time, no kids lose a chance to say they played a playoff game or three, because of COVID.

Sorry about you being displaced from your house during the flood.

However, the Dan River runs through the heart of South Boston and they flooded as well and were out of school for several days and many of those residents were without power as well. I believe several schools were used as shelters. Halifax was not even permitted to practice and they played 3 games (GW being the 3rd) within a 7 day span and I will point out that even though GW played 3 in 6 days, they had a full week of no games to recover and prepare, while Halifax played 2 physical teams within 3 days of each other and then traveled to Danville to play GW on the 7th day. Due to 58 being washed out Halifax also had to take an additional 45 minute detour, arrived late to the Saturday afternoon game and even received a penalty prior to the game for their late arrival. It's not an excuse, but they sure gave GW everything they had.

Thank you and my apologies for my ignorance. I did not know that about Halifax. I know Riverdale has it really bad when it floods and they get it more often than Danville. I lived off of Riverside and it was something like you’d see in Florida or Louisiana that particular year from Woodall to Biscuitville all the way down to old Piney Forest and back over. I’m hoping for a good game today. Football in our area isn’t really good. Hopefully GW, Halifax and Bassett can make it far this year.

When I was young I lived near Berry Hill not too far away from Riverdale. It didn't take too much to flood the bottom below where we lived.

I think Halifax kids miss more days in a year due to flooding than they do for snow.

Chuck does an excellent job on his broadcast but his partner in the booth today is just pure out horrible. Had to mute it after he stated if Halifax goes for it on 4th, they’ll only get a first down off of a broken play. Halifax proceeds to throw a beautiful slant over the middle to convert. Halifax looking good.
