Both teams are coming off wins from last week. GW won over Radford in a close game but we had 4 fumbles that killed scoring drives. And a blocked punt that led to a radford td and a to with 1 min left that led to another. When we should've just took a knee and went home. And several holding penalties that took 3 points off the board for us. But a win is a win and I'll take the 26-18 win any day.
FC is coming off of a big win over our County rival RR who seems to be very down this year. But again a win is a win and will build confidence for both teams.
GW has a killer passing attack this year as Beamer enters his 3rd year starting. Yes we lost 2 AMAZING WRs 1 to transfer and 1 who chose not to play. But the young men who stepped up are more than enough to fill the gap. Skeens, Hull and Younger are all threats to go deep. Our backfield is full of backs that hit the hole hard and don't go down with one hit or sloppy tackling. Our line has 3 monsters back in Gray, Caudill and Coe all 6'4 280 and 2 new starters in Dorian McMillan & Gordon Weston. Both have looked very nice to this point and will only get better.
As for FC they have a solid team this season from all the things I've heard. I've seen film on them from the JB benefit game and the RR actual game. They have some good size and decent backs one of which is a GW transfer in Denver Brown. They have let the teams stack the box from what I've seen and they dont pass much at all. They are more of a line up and come at you type of team this year which will work against some.
I don't know how well it will work against GW this week you've got to keep us honest. If we are allowed to stack the box the middle is gone and our speed to the edge will cause trouble on sweeps. I will say our youth caused problems against radford with fumbles, penalties and some dropped passes. But that will improve with more play time and experience. All things point to GW being in normal form by playoff time.
With that being said I think FC can make a game of it early. Once GW works out the kinks and gets flowing we should pull away. We are very balanced this year with passing and running. Our D is big up front and fast in back with Landon Thompson leading the D it's fun to watch when it's on.
So you know I gotta go with MY MAROONS GW-42 FC-21
Safe travels to all heading to the game and good luck to My MAROONS and FC let's pray for no injuries.
