Both teams are coming off wins from last week. GW won over Radford in a close game but we had 4 fumbles that killed scoring drives. And a blocked punt that led to a radford td and a to with 1 min left that led to another. When we should've just took a knee and went home. And several holding penalties that took 3 points off the board for us. But a win is a win and I'll take the 26-18 win any day.

FC is coming off of a big win over our County rival RR who seems to be very down this year. But again a win is a win and will build confidence for both teams.

GW has a killer passing attack this year as Beamer enters his 3rd year starting. Yes we lost 2 AMAZING WRs 1 to transfer and 1 who chose not to play. But the young men who stepped up are more than enough to fill the gap. Skeens, Hull and Younger are all threats to go deep. Our backfield is full of backs that hit the hole hard and don't go down with one hit or sloppy tackling. Our line has 3 monsters back in Gray, Caudill and Coe all 6'4 280 and 2 new starters in Dorian McMillan & Gordon Weston. Both have looked very nice to this point and will only get better.

As for FC they have a solid team this season from all the things I've heard. I've seen film on them from the JB benefit game and the RR actual game. They have some good size and decent backs one of which is a GW transfer in Denver Brown. They have let the teams stack the box from what I've seen and they dont pass much at all. They are more of a line up and come at you type of team this year which will work against some.

I don't know how well it will work against GW this week you've got to keep us honest. If we are allowed to stack the box the middle is gone and our speed to the edge will cause trouble on sweeps. I will say our youth caused problems against radford with fumbles, penalties and some dropped passes. But that will improve with more play time and experience. All things point to GW being in normal form by playoff time.

With that being said I think FC can make a game of it early. Once GW works out the kinks and gets flowing we should pull away. We are very balanced this year with passing and running. Our D is big up front and fast in back with Landon Thompson leading the D it's fun to watch when it's on.

So you know I gotta go with MY MAROONS GW-42 FC-21
Safe travels to all heading to the game and good luck to My MAROONS and FC let's pray for no injuries.

I agree but I will say last year injuries wouldn't have hurt us much at all. This year we can afford many but what we do have is top notch.

Can't wait for this matchup. On paper, I'm sure everyone has GW winning. GW is a great team. It's hard to judge either team by just their opening games. Fort Chiswell plays very well at home. FC and GW have a great rivalry. The weather is supposed to be rainy, and I can't help but think that would play in FC's favor if it does. Only time will tell.

I think FC wins by 12.

That's fair Maroons67 but what are your thoughts behind this score?

GW was very poorly prepared for the Radford game. When GW tried the first fg we only had 10 players on the field. When GW called a timeout and then tried the second fg we only had 9 on the field. There were other times that we did not have 11 on the field. During the first quarter I saw four players come off the field ond only 2 replaced them. We are just not very well coached.

With everything you've said I could not agree more. I hope most of the mistakes made against Radford are youth but idk. FC is a great test to see what's really going on. Plus we had 4 fumbles that killed scoring drives. Our talent alone won that game and our passing attack has taken a step up it seems. I have no clue how with what we lost due to transfer and the choice to not play. But it looks like it has. As for our backfield I have less than zero concern over their capabilities. Ball control will be a key factor in the game with FC especially if it's going to be as wet as expected.

If GW doesn't have Thompson on the field on offence then we may get beat. Thompson is a really good football player on both sides of the ball.

I had the privilege of coaching him in youth leauge. He was so smart and on point always. He can read an O like a book and will smack you just to do it. And on O he will not go down with one hit. With him Brown ans Sawyers in the backfield with Deacon we have a monster coming at you. If it's as wet as it's supposed to be I'd feed him all night. Until they stack us then I'd give it to Brown and Sawyers on the outside.

I heard GW had 25 yards of offense and only a couple first downs in the 2nd half!? I don't think that has to do with coaching, I think that has to do with being outmatched physically. Sad day for GW when the Fort can treat you like children on the field......

When a team runs the jet sweep all night long without any success, I do think it has a little something to do with coaching. Our running backs are young and weigh in the 140's and do not have a lot of speed. Our best running back is the Thompson kid that also plays linebacker. Thompson is about 6'2" and 215 lbs. and has decent speed.
On a wet rainy night why would you keep trying to run outside and not be able to cut it up field. Our Offensive line
averages about 6'3" and 285 lbs. and are decent blockers; so, why wouldn't you try to run Thompson up the middle. Thompson did not have a single carry the entire night I will give FC credit for having an outstanding defense. FC was the better team last Friday.

Thompson is 6'3 240 he is a TANK and didn't touch the ball. Brown and Sawyers both go about 175 and 5'10ish with good speed in the open but we never saw the open field due to rain and a smart FC D. Cosching has ALOT to do with it is there job to prepare the kids for Friday. And to this punt they have been prepared once.
