GW is coming off a loss to a good FC team. And Marion is coming off the thumping of NW. And a strong road win over a good Chilhowie. GW is young but still very talented but to this point we have not been prepared once for a game. And I've said it since go that I thought Marion could give us trouble. Marion is an experienced team that is well coached. Imo opinion we will match up very well with everyone we pay on the line. And we imo will have the best QB every Friday night regardless of opponent. Our D has looked amazing at times and sloppy other times. And the O has had some bright spots but they've looked sluggish at times. This team had the potential to go 9-1 now or 6-4 is really up to how well they jell ans if they come prepared for the game. Marion will be ready for us and looking to get the W. They capitalized on turnovers made by Chilhowie and showed the ability to win away from home against a good team. So here is the real question will GW show up or will it be more of the same? If GW finally plays like they can we win I have no questions about that. If not imo Marion can win BIG by 3-5 TDs it will be dry and they can pass. Now I do think our front 7 will cause havoc in Marions backfield. We have some absolute monsters on our D line and Landon Thompson at MLB is a freak. We can win this game big or lose it big but if it's just another sluggish night with spots of success then we can win by 7 or get beat by 7. Imo over all opinion I think the FC loss woke them up like 1 loss always does. And we will finally see what this installment of GW is capable of. And I think we get the W at home. If not this could be a long sad season for GW.
But with all of that said you know I gotta go with MY MAROONS GW-44 Marion-27
Good luck to everyone and safe travels

Blaster, I feel that you have given a good assessment of the game. I have not seen GW, but GW aways has the Athletes, and I figure this year is no different. No doubt that GW'S QB can play, and GW'S size is freakish. All the off season stuff about students not playing or transferring is somewhat confusing, espically considering all the success GW has had. It makes one scratch the Ole head a bit.

Sometimes kids and coaches are hard to read. One coach told me one time about 20 years ago that if the Players ever figured him out, he was toast. He always wanted to keep everyone quessing as to what his next Move would be, ON and OFF the field. He turned out to be one of the best Coaches the school ever had.

Back to the game. Marion is good. They have 2 RB's that can play. Their line has good size, and they play their Assignments well. The QB is a good player, and he can run too. They run their plays well, and they have some speed. Marion has a solid defense. If you give them good Field position, they will capitalize on it. ( If you take away 2 Turnovers made by Chilhowie, it's an even game. ) This game I consider a toss up. Best of luck to both squads, and hopefully no injuries for either squad. Later, My Friend..............

We definitely have the athletes like always and the size is still in place. And we did lose 3-4 starters either to transfer or simply not playing. But even with that wr still have plenty to get the job done. It's just getting prepared for the game. We've looked out of pace both games. The Radford game corbels been alot worse but a win is a win. And FC just out played us and wanted it more. But hopefully we show up tomorrow night and pay like we can. If so we take the W if not this game will be interesting to say the least.

Blaster, one other thing. Marion is very well Coached. Coach Carroll and his staff have done an excellent job In turning their program around. Their participation is up, and they are winning. Their move to the Southwest District was the right move. I hope GW and RR the best in the MED.

On a different subject, I think Chilhowie and Northwood will be consolidated soon. Smyth County Has WAY to many schools to try to staff........14 schools! Yes, 14 schools to staff, heat, cool, feed, maintain And to educate our youth. That is more than Wise County who has a larger population and geographic Area than Smyth. No way are the tax payers going to continue to support that may schools, while our county Does not increase it's tax base by means other than real estate and personal property Tax.This is not just My opinion, but the opinion of a lot of folks in Smyth County.

Couldn't agree more Chilwar I alluded to how well they are coached in my assessment. And imo that's 1 area they wool definitely have the advantage.

And I didn't know there was 14 schools in the county. Looking at it now that I do tag that's crazy having to take care of that many schools and kids.

I agree with the consolidation of Chilhowie and Northwood. It should have been done when Rich Valley and RB Worthy was done 30 years ago.

Wise County is perfectly broken up for the consolidation they did. Six HS consolidated into three with an easy vicinity plan.

I've heard consolidating all Smyth County high schools into one but I don't think that's really feasible. Yes Marion is as centrally located as it can be but access is limited for the kids in the northern and western parts of the county. Hell access isn't that easy from Sugar Grove...especially in the winter.
