Handley Wins

Great win today! Hopefully we can build off this win and keep getting better! I know Loudoun Valley, Clarke County, and Millbrook are all extremely good teams - but I see this team being able to compete with everyone else on their schedule and possibly end the season with 7 wins. Just keep heading in the right direction!

Handley will beat Skyline

Handley might beat Harrisonburg and James Wood

Handley will not beat Loudoun Valley, Clarke County, Fauquier, Jefferson, Sherando, or Millbrook.

If they get to 4 wins then it will be one of the best win increases in the state.

Handley guys, I'm going to do my best to get to one of your home games this year. I'm going to try to get BleedingNavy and my brother in law to ride up with me. I'll keep you posted and hopefully we can meet up for a few minutes.

Incidentally, I may be kin to some of you. I have Moore and Dorsey blood in my veins through my mother's side.

And ClarkFan, you will have to meet us there too.

Lol

Very possible for me. Navy will have get ahead on his "honey do" list and grovel at her feet, but he may be able to pull it off.

Where are UVA and Tech that day? I know Navy likes to catch those games when he can.

What time does Handley kick off that day?

That's perfect. GPS says a little over three hours from my house. 1:00 KO gets us back home at a decent hour. Last Friday I waked in my back door at 12:30 am. That was a little rough.

UVA will be at Pitt, Tech will be at Syracuse. So no conflicts there.

Of course, Hammy, you will want to Tevo the Pitt game if it's an afternoon start. What number does George wear now?

And Navy, I'm sure we can get a few guys together to go by your house on Friday and wash cloths, run the vacuum, etc., to give you a better chance of getting permission.

Handley has 55 kids on varsity,31 kids on jv and the middle school team has 60 kids. The people that really know Handley know the school is loaded with athletes. the problem has always been depth. Coach Davis has got numbers so I expect good things in the future.

I Can see possibly 6 wins you left Sherando off the list. I would say somewhere between 3 and 6 wins

I didn't see that many on the sideline at the game on Saturday, guess I could have counted wrong didn't look close to 55. But max preps has listed about 44 players including sophomores with numbers on the jersey. either way it's a great improvement , and congratulations on a much needed victory last weekend.

The program I bought had 55 kids and so did the picture of the team. I didn't count the sideline.

Max Prep isn't a reliable source. I have a program that is reliable.

I did not leave Sherando off the list - after seeing Sherando play Louisa I believe Handley can beat them.

7 wins is definitely optimistic - and I am willing to concede that 3-6 wins is much more likely.

I'm a Handley guy but comparing a loss to a very good Louisa team and a Handley win against a bad Warren County team doesn't make me naïve enough to think Handley will beat Sherando this year. I do believe Handley is on the right track and will get back to being a consistent winner.

Sherando has a lot of work to do or they could get beat by any team on their schedule. After last weeks second half debacle , I wouldn't count Any team out in beating them. They should be better like any team as the season goes on.

I think I might have to float from side to side. I don't need to draw the ire of anyone. :)

Hammy, Didn't Sherando let a few games get away from them in the second half last year? FH for one? Is there a pattern?

Yes they did, and I believe there is a pattern. Number one thing is conditioning, if they can fix that of which I am sure they are working on, then they will have fixed a lot. We would love to have you on our side DP , but you sit where you want. We will meet up.

Handley and Sherando might have similar records by the time they play. I can't really see Sherando being better than 3-3 by the time the Handley game comes around. The Martinsburg game could end up being more lopsided than the Dinwiddie (2013) and Amherst (2007) losses Sherando took.

But then again I'm always a pessimist about these sorts of things. Would love to be surprised.

They will be ok , lots of good things with the team also. 2013 team also lost to Martinsburg before losing to Dinwiddie in the State Final. pretty impressive body of work in the games between those two.

The optimist in me believes Handley has a shot in that game. I'm not saying I'd bet the farm on it - but I believe the Judges have a punchers chance to pull out a victory which is a far cry from where they were a year ago.

But next up is Harrisonburg which will be a far greater measuring stick than the game last week in terms of how the team is progressing.

Sherando went 9-1 last year in regular season with only loss being to 3 time defending MD State Champ Fort Hill. That isn't really a pattern of games getting away from them.

I was talking mainly about conditioning, just because you win a game does not mean you don't have a conditioning problem. Cramps and being out of shape have been a problem sometimes at Sherando for several years now. It cost Sherando in a game several years ago against Martinsburg.
Cost them last year in against Fort Hill when they didn't finish the game with the same intensity as they started it with, they were wore out in the fourth. it definitely cost them big time last week. Not saying they would have won all those games, but conditioning was a big factor. I think the new rules on not practicing with the monitoring of the heat Index over ( not sure what the exact number is) 92 or 93 degrees has also had a affect. Sherando is strict by that rule. Like I said, they will be fine, not world beaters this year, will still win a lot of games. I look for them to be better when they get in shape. Its hard to compare Sherando to all the other local schools because they have a much tougher schedule , those other teams get several games under the belt that are easy to win.

Warriors will be fine. Great program. And I don't recall a week 1 game where multiple players were not impacted by cramping, especially the two way kids.

i wanted to keep away from posting but, in this case, just sounded like an old friend needed a pat on the back. And don't take anything from Louisa. I mean, they fumbled 8 times and still won. Their running attack this season is very powerful.

gL on the year Hammy.

Have you seen Louisa play this year Shauntclair? Just wondering
Just the video so far but I've been expecting this from them since last year. Plus, I have another well placed inside source that sees them every day. It's not optimism anymore.

Of course, 8 fumbles isn't going fly every week. They could blow themselves up easily with that kind of play. Quite honestly, they needed a whole bunch of good bounces in week 1 to get past the Warriors. But that ground and pound combination of Bell and Whalen cannot be denied. It's like having 2 Jeromes Bettis's in the backfield. You cannot keep tackling them all night and not wear down.

Louisa is good. Very good.

Actually they didn't need a whole lot , they do run the ball well. The warriors only helped them in a few big ways. That was all it took. Thanks for the good luck, the Warriors will need a little this year.
