Tony Rayburn is stepping down as HC at Handley. Says it is time for new blood. It's not his fault, imho. It's the idiots who cut their feeder program from the middle school.

Tremendous person who gave all of himself to that school. Only to be rewarded by people berating him from the "hill" win or lose. Former Judges who took their namesake literally. Good luck Coach Rayburn and I hope you end up where you are appreciated

It's time for someone else to take over the last 5 years Handley has been awful. He was a very good coach but being a great coach is a full time job. They need someone with the passion to work the halls and get more kids out for football depth has killed Handley for years.

The feeder program has nothing to do with it. The 8th graders played for the freshmen team and got them involved in the program a year earlier. I don't think Clarke County has a feeder program and they're doing just fine.

Clarke County has an EXCELLENT feeder program. What are you talking about? Pee wee football all the way up through middle school here.

I think everyone has park and Rec teams and most Middle Schools have a squad (depending on size). When the HS Coachs involve these as part of their programs, like a Salem or Powhatan, that would constitute a feeder program by my definition.

The Winchester middle school football program was axed for a few years, that's what I was talking about.

Yes the middle school went 23 years without a team up until this year. The 8th graders played for the freshmen team which got them an extra year in the system. The program has taken a big step back in the the last 5 years the main reason is lack of depth.

Winchester has peewee football up to 13 just like Clarke County but my point is Johnson Williams doesn't have a Middle School football team that I know of and Clarke County is just fine.

Handley and Loudoun County two teams and schools with similar demographics. The good thing is Rayburn will get a bigger paycheck. he is good coach, he did well when he had depth and talent like most coaches would have. Best of luck across the mountain.

Where the heck have you been?

I have been all over the state of Virginia in the last week, thankfully I am home in Middletown now. Haven't had a whole lot of time to be on here lately, but felt compelled to give my regards to the Handley Coach, he was a good coach, Handley a tired program will do well with some new energy, with the right person. Who ever said getting out in the hall ways of the school to get players, is correct. The best high school coaches find players in the halls, and create a excitement to be part of the program. I am sure Handley will make a come back.
