Hickory made a strong bid for second place in the Southeastern District and a 1st round tournament bye with a surprisingly easy 10-0 shutout win over Grassfield.

Sophomore Conner Eason tossed a a complete game 3-hitter and he received support at the plate from Spencer Carter and Christian Lowry who both hit homeruns.

The Hawks led 7-0 after the first two innings. Carter slugged a 3-run homerun over the left field fence to give Hickory a 5-0 lead. Lowry crushed a homerun over the left field fence in the second to extend the lead to seven.

Brandon Holloway and Stephen Polansky singled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a throwing error to 1st. Jake Tandy's grounder with the base loaded scored the final run to invoke the mercy rule.

Eason was never threatened facing only 18 batters while striking out four batters with no walks in five innings.

The Grizzlies arrived 30 minutes late due to a reported school bus issue and they never found a rhythm either on the mound or at the plate. Starting pitcher Brandon Schneider hit three batters and walked two in three innings on the mound. Grassfield could muster only three hits with two by first baseman Andrew Bullock.
