Congrats on your season so far and I can't wait for the matchup between Haysi and Essex. I know Essex hasn't officially named the game site, but how many fans would yall expect to make the trip? I know Haysi was in the state semis last season and are definitely going to be well prepared. And I know your RB/LB #34 is a STUD. Is he going to play anywhere next year?

Their qb has over 3000 yards and over 30 TDs as well. Very balanced it looks like. Over 2000 yards rushing as a team this year as well

Haysi also has a fantastic, very intelligent head coach (and probably staff). He is also a long time beloved institution at that school and in the community. The school has a huge support from the small community. I enjoyed reading about them last year in an article posted. I became kinda of a fan. When everyone was picking Galax this year, I said I don't know...Congrats to Haysi, I would pull for you guys but not in this game against my hometown (ha).

And Essex fans, from what I hear we do not have to worry about a repeat of any disgusting crowd behavior like at last year's state semis. Haysi is a class act from what is said.

The game sounds like it may be played at KG (which is good for the turf experience to simulate Salem, so good for both teams). KG has a beautiful new facility. Thank you to those folks for offering to help Essex. Very kind.

However, KW is closer though and we would have more fans there and would be more comfortable as we are more famillair but not sure what is happening yet. kwhs95fan, I saw your post about the game maybe not at KW (I think that I know what you are referring to, no surprise there, ha) Maybe I will comment when it's confirmed and why....

Still playing the victim card. Can't use that your whole life. Truth is Haysi, Essex has a bunch of fans they let in for free that stand in the end zone. If they don't show up, you want anything to worry about. Unless cavs tries to run over the fans after the game.

Haysi is not your classic small town school that plays 3 yards and a cloud of dust, they run a wide open offense and always have. Many different formations. They do suffer from declining enrollment, (hence the consolidation with Clintwood next year), probably14-16 players will see the field, almost all starters play the entire game both sides and special teams.

They will bring a well behaved crowd. It should be a great game, hopefully #34 for Haysi will be at full speed, he had a virus they said during the Galax game and Haysi will have one of their best lineman back from suspension.

The travel will hurt them some. They played Alta Vista great last year and are missing their best RB from that team.

Travel early

They should charter bus to area on Friday. do a walk thru someplace. get good night's sleep and play on Saturday.

I recall a team once in basketball semi-finals, that was "hard-headed" and took a school bus to Richmond the day of game, because they had been "doing it that way all season.". About 2 hours later they left town with a "L".

Re: Travel early

It's a toss up. Because last year, Altavista's football team went to and played at VT on Friday and then stayed in SW Virginia on Friday night for the game on Sat against Haysi. (and I think they'll do the same this year) But the Altavista basketball team went home between the semis and finals this spring year and won it all. The coaches should know the players well enough to know if it's better to travel or keep the routine.

I'm pulling for Haysi, wow what a story this team could make, or has made this far. With this being their last year as Haysi. Haysi has a tall task in front of them with Essex. But I think they have really got a chance here. If they were to win it all, wow what a way to end it. Haysi deserves nothing less at this point. They play their tails off every year no matter the numbers on the team. Lot of tradition in Haysi.

It will be a great match up. As proud as I was this year to see the Northern Neck represented in the playoffs it meant that Essex played two teams in the playoffs that they played in the regular season. I love getting to see Essex play teams from the West that we seldom get to play. Last year playing Central Lun and Parry McCluer was fantastic. Needless to say I can't wait to see what Haysi brings to the table. Essex will need to play at the top of their game to get the W. They have had some injuries lately but some kids have stepped up in a big way. Here's to seeing Essex make it to the state finals 3 years in a row!

I know nothing about Essex this year, But how would you compare them to the 09 Essex team?
