The Buzz: Given this past week's results in pre-Christmas holiday basketball, things couldn't have broken any better for the Henrico Holiday Hoops with some must-see matchups developing. For starters, the opening round showdown between C.D. Hylton and St. Christopher's has the makings to be a Championship-level battle before even getting to the semifinals. Hylton is presently ranked #1 in the state in 6A and just beat the #2 ranked team in 6A, Woodside, by a decisive count of 75-59 in the Wolverines' gym.

In that win over Woodside, Hylton went 12-of-20 from three-point distance with 6-foot-4 wing Jerry Carter, who's headed to D-2 Mount Olive in North Carolina, going 7-of-9 from long range with 29 points. St. Chris validated their worth in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Tournament, outlasting a field that featured the likes of Benedictine, Deep Run, Highland Springs and others to win the crown. In the Championship, St. Chris beat Deep Run 57-49 behind 37 points combined from guards Nick Sherod and Alex Petrie.

The duo of Sherod and Petrie rates among the best in the state, both fully capable of running off five or six three-pointers in a row. Sherod may get a chance to see his future University of Richmond teammate in the Finals as Henrico, with Spiders signee De'Monte Buckingham, are on the other side of the bracket.

One name emerging into a star is 6-foot-8 forward Zach Jacobs at Trinity Episcopal. A transfer from Maggie Walker, Jacobs lit up Atlantic Shores for 30 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks, plus had 28 points and nine boards in handing Williamsburg Christian its first loss. The Dragons from Collierville, Tennessee also have a pair of double-figure scorers to watch in Seena Ghelichkhani (15.9PPG) and junior Tay Morris (13.7PPG).
