The first thing that caused me to pause was the simple fact that the regular season is over already. Wow, wasn’t it just yesterday when things got started with post about preseason prognostications?
And, as MrSalem1000 mentioned, it’s not lost on me that for a great many of these kids that we rooted for this year, they have finished their football careers, forever. It’s sad that so many of them will never strap their helmets on again and play the game they have loved since they were munchkins. God Bless them each and every one of them.
How about both schools named Salem hanging 76 or 77 points on their opponents?
And this one, Tasewell and Lebanon went to double overtime to finally end with Tazewell winning 62 to 61! That must have been a wild game?
Speaking of double OT, who in the world would have thought that Staunton River would beat Wm Fleming? Not me, for sure. It took SR two overtime periods to do it, but they pulled it off.
Powhatan needed to win, plus a lot of help to make it into the playoffs. Their win was not really in doubt because their opponent was RSA, (old George Wythe), but they needed Atlee to get beaten by Henrico. Well Henrico did their part and Powhatan gets to play for at least one more game. Nothing personal against Powhatan, but I sure hope they are one and done. Because you see, they come to Dinwiddie Friday night.
Man, talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse? Galax, the reigning state Class 1 Champions did not win a game this year. It’s been a really long time since that has happened to the Maroon Tide. Like 35 years ago really long time. 1989 to be exact.
This one caught my eye and I hope someone knows what happened? The Lake Taylor-Norview game was called in the first half. I see that the score was 49-0 LT. Was it stopped because it was out of hand and it served no purpose to continue playing? Or something else.
Coach Hall, that came over from Manchester after a 25 year storied career, has his Prince George Royals in the playoffs in his first year.
Bruton, which had not lost a game before last week to a very strong Poquoson team, must have had some leftover blues. New Kent, (which on paper at least), and which they should have beaten easily, put a good old fashion whopping on them, 55 to 28.
And lastly, the game between unbeaten Matoaca and once beaten Dinwiddie had a lot of eyes on it. And the game did not disappoint. Dinwiddie fought back from a 19 point deficit and scored the go ahead touchdown with 27 tics left on the clock. Matoaca made a valiant effort in those last 27 seconds, but the game ended with Dinwiddie intercepting a Hail Mary pass as time expired. The final score was 45-39.
That’s it from me, now let’s hear from you. What did you see this week that is notable and worthy of sharing with your forum brothers and sisters?
