Altavista vs. Essex - The Rematch
Yes, the rematch seemed destined to happen indeed. Round Two between Essex and Altavista should be a great one. Altavista will be considered the favorites as they should be. However, Essex is built more for this game, this time.
Haysi brought some great fans and played hard. Started off strong, but the speed and toughness of Essex surprised them I think. It was 14-0 and Essex was driving for the put away score in the 2nd quarter, Haysi picked the ball and had a nice return inside the 10. 14-6 at the half. Essex D line and DBs really came to play in the 2nd half even with the constant rain. Essex had a total of 5 interceptions as the Haysi QB struggled under pressure and with the rain. Essex just went with the running game and put Haysi away (at least three different Essex RBs scored). Final 35-13 Essex. (MrJ82, come on man, just kidding
No controversies in this one as Essex performed well in the cold rain and a strong Haysi seemed to run out of gas and out of options. I thought that the Essex crowd was good and loud for the rain. Haysi's fan base was great for such a long trip. Hope that those nice Haysi folks can dry out and have a safe long return trip.
Last year Altavista shell shocked Essex QB Broaddus from the 1st few plays to set the tone in the cold Salem rain. Still game was only 7-0 heading into the 4th q. Essex was all spread last year and one RB. This year it's a tad different for Essex. Altavista is still loaded with great players, coaches, and fans. Should be a war. Let's see if Essex can perform a little better and have a happier ending this time (third trip in a row, back to ole Salem....)
