Springer76 - it has been several years since I posted. My sons are long gone out of high school. I have enjoyed your posts of the last few years. But, I have an exception with this year..."should have beat Herm by two touchdowns" and "I'll take Dale for 2 or 3 touchdowns over Herm". Why the Herm hating? It was a very close game between the two of us. The way I saw it, your team held on the punt returns so those didn't count and your offense only scored 12 points either way. I said after the game that those two were the two best teams in Division 5 in RVA. Now we have beaten Dale and gave up 81 total yards (17 in the second half). Can we get some love now?????? The Herm defense is for real and the offense is getting better. We have another tough one against Varina this week so time will tell. I look forward to your response.

I concede! The Herm has earned my respect! They are indeed the team to beat! We will most likely clash again in November!
HS has 2 back 2 back tough games coming.
Riverbend and Lee Davis....

Welcome back Herm5518. Don't stay away so long next time.

Hermitage is certainly the real deal. They flat throttled a darn good Dale team. I was shocked. Not that Herm one, but won so decisively.

I hope the stars line up right and HSHS and Hermitage can lock horns again this post season. What a war it will be.

Herm 5518, it's nothing personal my friend! Your boys and my boys have developed quite a rivalry. I still think we should have won! We wre at he 5 yd. line 1st & goal. I could feel it, all of Springer Nation could feel it! You probably felt it too, then our young qb threw that errant pass right to Mateo! Game over! Herm survived!
I thought Herm didn't have enough offense, but they found the right combination. I thought they didn't have as much offense as Thomas Dale, but they did! Herm has the best defense around, hands down!
It looks like Herm is in line for the 1 seed in Class 5. I hope we get the chance to bring our boys to Chester Fritz and and get it right! 3 time State Champs sounds good! It's gonna have to go through Chester Fritz first! I'm glad you are back too! If we wind up at the same game, I want to shake your had and extend my friendship to you! Good luck to you guys the rest of the way!

I would not count out Stone Bridge. Their team this year is allegedly one of the best they have ever had, and they have had some very, very, very good teams in the past despite their lack of success at the state finals.

I will never forget the '03 Stone Bridge team in the state semi's against Powhatan I believe. That was the biggest high school team I've ever seen to this day. I thought I showed up to a college game by accident.

Henrico is better than I thought they would be considering what they lost from last year. I knew that when they played Herm tough. I still thought our defense would fare better against them. Having seen them in person and seeing what you guys did to Dale, I realize how scary good you guys are.

Henrico surprised me with the yardage hey gained on us. We had a little trouble with their running game. They should be ok going forward and not an easy out.

Springer76 - I was surprised Kemp didn't get the ball more against us. He had one catch for 2 yards. Yes, he did run back one of the punts but he didn't get it enough offensively.

Thanks for the welcome back...I am a little more on the fringe than I used to be. Don't know any of the players other than what I read. I don't want to get carried away, but the defense seems to be as good as the one Curtis Grant led. That team lost in the finals. Our offense is either red hot or very not!!!

I certainly wouldn't count them out! I know they returned a whole bunch from last years team, which is scary!!!! I have heard that they are able to run their always tough single wing offense combined with the spread. If they have the quarterback and receivers, they will definitely be the team to beat!

What is your take on Varina? I have not heard many people talking about them.

Their kicking game was terrible last year!

B

Better than the last 4 years! Strong defensivelyand it looks like their offense is coming along. Strong kicking game...
Noticed they been blowing people out. I hope the Herm boys don't overlook and relax. The schedule has been brutal, but this week is not the time to ease up.

Varina drubbed Motoaca last week 45-7. I think Motoaca is 6-4 or 5-5 squad even with a tough schedule of Dinwiddie, TD, Var, & massopanox. If I dropped them (Motoaca) in the Penninsula, BRD or the Jeff they might be an 7-8 win ball club.

Let's see what happens between Massopanox vs Motoaca this week. If that game is close that might speak volumes about Varina.

Obviously Varina plays Hermitage this week. I think its close bc Hermitage is a Defense first football team. I picked Hermitage as the #1 squad to start off the season so I'll stay with that until they give me a reason to feel otherwise.

Varina is a tough out though for sure. If Hermitage goes undefeated they will have beaten HSHS, TD, Varina & Manchester. That is a unreal resume for Richmond or anywhere else you can think of.

A Varina win would be a serious monkey wrench thrown into the whole Richmond equation!
