Wasn’t your father a musician on the Old Dominion Barn Dance back in the day.
Yes he was. He was a very popular country music guitarist and played with many stars in the field!Wasn’t your father a musician on the Old Dominion Barn Dance back in the day.
Donna Meade Dean Stevens was the lead singer in dad's band in the 70's. Donna went to Highland Springs HS, graduated in 1970 with my sister, they were good friends! She's a friend of mine too. I talk to her often. Daddy and Jimmy Dean were good friends. I had the opportunity in 1992 or 94... in the 90's, Jimmy took me and my dad for a boat ride on Big Bad John on the James River. Big Bad John was his 100 ft yacht.I though so. We went to the Beacon Saturday night to the Old Dominion Barn Dance and I was thinking about him. The show was excellent. Donna Meade is still an excellent entertainer.
They had a video before the show started about the original run of the show. I suspect your dad was in some of the pics. Was your mom ever part of the show?
Incidently, we ate at Saucys BBQ in Hopewell before the show. The food and service was great, but the Hopewell Blue Devils hats on the shelf didn’t do much for me.
Oh, and Rhonda Vincent and Rage was the headliner. They are absolutely fabulous.
Old as dirt! I'll be 65 shortly, I know you've got me beat by a few! That’s neat stuff. We are old farts, you know that don’t you? The young guys on here are saying, “what the hell are they talking about now?”

Depends on how young you are referring to. I met Jimmy and Donna both back in the day. They used to be patrons at the cleaners my mom was manager of (and I worked at in high school). They also had a thing at Varina called the Deans List for kids who did super well in school. If you made the list you got a Dean's Jacket which I still have to this day. That’s neat stuff. They were always great people and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
Donna was a Henrico County girl. Donna moved to Nashville when she was in her 20's. She met Jimmy Dean there. They bought that big piece of land on the James River on Osborne Tnpk.and built there estate there, where Donna wanted to be!I know Donna was a Varina girl. Jimmy wasn’t from that area, was he?
