I have not seen Bird this year. At this point in the season, every team that is playing after Thanksgiving has earned the right to say "we've got a good team"! Bird laid the wood on GA and deserves to be in the Region Championship. Who deserves the right to play in the State Class 5 Tourney will be decided next week! I feel like HS was a little off of their normal dominating style last night, but it probably won't happen next week. I think HS's players got a mouth full from the coach at halftime last night, and righted the ship in the 2nd half! They will be fired up next week at The Vic! The cake walk is over! Mediocre won't survive!
I can honestly say that I have finally found the weakness for Highland Springs! BOREDOM!!! The STARTING DEFENSE has not given up an offensive touchdown since Manchester,and they are bored. They went through “the motions” on offense. Foster-Powell had 2 carries in the entire first half(and one reception). They used 3 different RBs and even had a rare 3 & out. I know depth is important,and it really showed in the second half,but this game should have been put away early. I still don’t know why both starting offensive tackles sat the game out last night,but were in uniform. The fake fg was just flat out being lazy by our secondary. They were not involved in trying to rush to block the field goal, but just stood there watching. The kicker throws a ball to a receiver that doesn’t have anyone within 10 yards of him. Freeman only crossed the 50 yard line one time the entire second half. They had 4 3 & outs. The second half was vintage HSHS offense and defense as far as scoring and intensity. They will need both OT moving forward,but I’m glad the depth played better in the second half. Foster-Powell is a load and Williams is a good,strong,faster change of pace, but I’m hoping moving forward Foster Powell takes the first half carries and puts the games away early. HSHS outscored Freeman 19-0 in the second half,but that should have been the FIRST half. I got HSHS beating Bird 34-7. Bird has not been a good team the entire season!
I have to give some credit to Freeman's team. They played a good 1st half against us, as HS wasn't very good! As I said prior, I think they caught a mouth full from the coach at half time. They looked like a different team 2nd half. As far as Bird goes, as I said, I haven't seen them this year. BUT, they have earned the right to play us in the Regional Championship game!
This will be closer than the 5C Championship last year. I eat crow because I said that GA was the best of the other 3 not named Highland Springs. Bird has some athletes. With that said, hope HS beats the breaks off of them. Go Springers.
We on different sides on this one Bo… I like a good comeback story and I’ll be rooting for my dominion district foe. However, HSHS is superior this season and anything less than a state championship would be uncivilized for the Springers.
😂 I know how you’re coming! You know me and why I want the Springers to send them home with that BIG L. Bird is legit though. Gotta give credit where it’s due.
OK, I volunteered to be the jerk. Who has bird beat that makes you say they are legit? Fact is, they are in the region finals by default. Other than Highland Springs, this is an extremely weak region this year. Aside from Prince George and Highland Springs, I could legitimately flip a coin for any of the other six teams in a head to head game.
Bird has a big back and can pound the rock. No, they will not be able to match the springers but this is a very good start for a Bird team that was once "the" regional powerhouse to start to reclaim some of its former glory. The fact is, they had a good season this year so far and over performed which is nice to see.
I’d say that with the athletes they have, if they can control the clock and limit mistakes, they’ll have a chance to make it competitive. Lost by 8 to Midlo. 11 to Dale and 1 to Manchester. Definitely not a pushover. They have some capable backs and they have way more team speed than Freeman and Herm.
Springers are the obvious favorite and probably by at least 20 points, but it does seem Bird has found a classic crew of typical Bird backs. Maybe they can ugly the game up and keep score low by holding the ball. Something like 24-10
By your score,you think Bird will hold HSHS to “only” 3 TDs. No other team has held them to less than 4. Bird gave up 30+ to TDsle and HSHS‘s offense is better than Dale’s. HSHS faced a RB heading to UVA when they beat Colonial Forge. The HSHS starting defense hasn’t given up a TD since they faced Manchester. HSHS will have both their D1 OTs back this week too. It’s gonna take 35 to beat HSHS!
@HooSprings I appreciate your passion and you are a HEAVY favorite…we are just saying Bird is having a rebound year. No one is picking Bird so far. If the Springers are who they say they are you’ll win going away. If you rep 804 for states I’ll root for you with the same vigor against the out of region opponents. This Springer team could be special… time to finish. I hope for good weather, penalty free football, no injuries, and good sportsmanship between the two teams. Alright Hoo….Here we go. My Bulldogs make the trip down 95 next Saturday. Gotta play us for 48 minutes!!! Hopefully you guys came out of the Bird game healthy. We’ve got a week to hype this thing up. Looking forward to coming to your House!!!!

Looks like everyone is healthy for us. How was your center? This will be the best team you have faced all year. I say that because I watched you play freedom,and in my opinion we are better than Freedom.
I think our center will be good to go….at least from what I am hearing today. No doubt about this being a hard game for SB. I wouldn’t judge too much off the Freedom game. Very banged up team at the time and QB changes since then. However Freedom handled us that night with relative ease. Do you think the game will be at 2 PM?
I’m hearing 2 PM,but just like last week, it’s subject to change.

I think Warwick will see the game film and try to throw down the middle on us. But, I don’t think they have a 10’ tall receiver with suction cups for hands, like KG.
