As of a few minutes ago, St. Mary's beat Gonzaga by 10, capping off a first-ever day in which the AP's top six teams all lost, as well as # 9 Texas Tech. Guess some of these high school surprises must have rubbed off on the bigger boys!
In addition to # 1 Gonzaga going down, Colorado beat number 2 Arizona (which by the way has former Spotswood star Justin Kier on their team), Tennessee beat number 3 Auburn, Michigan State beat # 4 Purdue in the final seconds, #10 Baylor took down # 5 Kansas, Arkansas edged out # 6 Kentucky, and TCU beat the Red Raiders. You would have to go all the way down to Duke at # 7 to find a team that won. Not sure who number 8 is and what they did or didn't do.
Closer to home, both UVa and VT were involved in last second shots, with the Hoos losing a heartbreaker on a half court heave from Florida State and the Hokies staging a late comeback to knock off Miami on the road. Given all this craziness, I think we can safely say that we are in for a TRULY Mad March!!!
