Honaker's Heath Miller (standout for 1A Honaker, UVA, and the NFL's famed Pittsburgh Steelers) was just inducted into the prestigious state of Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Miller owns every tight end record at UVA history, was a big part of two Super Bowl wins as one of the best tight ends in NFL history. I always enjoyed watching him play the game.

hmmm....is Virginia Class 1A becoming the place to find hidden gems?

some recent 1A stars - currently big stars on the big stage.

Altavista's Juan Thornhill - a big part of UVA's resurgence - Thornhill is 3rd in the entire Nation (FBS) in interceptions!

Riverheads' Mike Herndon stars for the University of Pitt (7-4)

Galax's Stephen Peoples' success at Virginia Tech.

Essex's Sterling Hammond at Virginia Union (Richmond) is one of the best defensive players in NCAA D-II in the nation.

Watched Miller play for the State Championship in 2000 at Liberty . A man on the field with a bunch of boys . He stood out like a light bulb !

He definitely stood out because of his height. I knew he was good, but I'll admit that I didnt see him having the career that he did. But as a Steelers fan, I'm glad he did. He was a perfect fit for the city and team.

I remember staying and watching Riverheads beat Bath, 26-12, after the KW game was over. That was my first time ever seeing Riverheads in person and I left impressed then, and 18 years later, I still have respect for the program and the system that they run.
