Huguenot Downs Booker T Washington 35-6

The Huguenot Falcons defense came up big with three interceptions and five turnovers on their way to a 35-6 opening season win over Booker T. Washington. It was the defense that scored the first points when De'Andre Mulligan picked up a fumble that seemed to lay on the ground forever and returned it 60 yards from a touchdown with 11:51 to go in the 1st quarter.

The Falcons won the field position battle as over half of the Mighty Bookers offensive drives started inside their own 20-yard line. After taking over at the Booker T. Washington 35-yard line, Huguenot needed only five plays to cross the goal line just before halftime. Quarterback Merlys Manuel connected with Desean Hinton on a 17-yard slant pass for a touchdown with 1:46 to go in the 2nd quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Booker t. Washington could not get anything started and they opened the second half with a fumble on the opening kickoff. Later in the 3rd quarter, Javier Taylor intercepted a pass and returned it to the Mighty Bookers 17-yard line. Rakei Pope ended the short drive with a 2-yard run to extend the lead to 21-0. Pope finished the game with 10 carries for 76 yards.

Another short field led to a 4th Falcons touchdown after Manuel led a 3-play, 24-yard drive that was capped off by a 12-yard touchdown strike to Kenneth Cannon. Manuel finished the night with 105 passing yards on 11 of 23 completions with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Falcons also added a 63-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game.

Booker T. Washington ended the shutout late in the final period. Backup quarterback Larry Parker took over in the 4th quarter and led Booker T. Washington to on a 63-yards in 11-play scoring drive resulting in a touchdown. Parker accounted for the all the yards on the drive including an 8-yard scamper with 1:19 to go the game.
