The Huguenot Falcons are the Region 4B champions after winning a 3rd meeting against Monacan 73-48 at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond. The Falcons lost the 1st meeting against Monacan by one point but they defeated them in the 2nd meeting by 13 at the Arthur Ashe Center. They had a much easier time in the 3rd meeting using a 15-0 run to take a 28-14 lead midway thru the 2nd quarter. Huguenot held the Chiefs scoreless in the 2nd quarter until a three by Myles Loving ended the Falcons run with 4:24 to go before halftime. Loving scored all seven Monacan points in the 2nd quarter but they trailed 34-21 at halftime. Junior Lance Monteiro Jr scored 10 of his 14 points in the 3rd quarter including two treys to extend the lead to 54-36 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Ivangel Pacheco defied his 5-foot-6 size with a big second half and led the team with 15 points while dishing out seven assists and adding six rebounds. Senior Deshawn Ridley posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Falcons 7-foot-0 center Eric Rustin had eight points, two blocks and five rebounds. He also caused the Chiefs to overpass several times causing turnovers. The Falcons will move on to host Deep Creek in the 4A Quarterfinals on Friday. Rashid Johnson and Myles Loving led the Chiefs with nine points each and Jonathan Mondrey added eight points and four rebounds. Nystl Wilson had seven points and five rebounds. Monacan will travel to Norfolk to face Lake Taylor in the State Playoffs.
