As you have probably seen on here as a pop up, the state finals for girls in Class 1 has now been moved to Sunday. That is because George Wythe and Honaker have not yet played their semi-final, which was originally set for Wednesday. I assume it will still be played tonight or tomorrow if another delay is needed. You can bet that Riverheads, the other finalist, is watching the scene with great interest to see where they will go and who to prepare for. I think at least one other state final has also been moved to Sunday (East Rock boys and somebody) but maybe other divisions are still on for today. If anyone can guide us to a link or chart that shows all divisions with up to date times, that might be helpful.

Bottom three divisions:
3A boys - Hopewell at Abingdon, Sat.
2A boys - East Rock at Union, Sun.
2A girls: Luray at GC, Sat.
1A boys: AltaVista at PM, Sat.
1A girls: Riverheads at Honaker, Sun.

Believe that's the lineup so far.

Is region A that bad in girls basketball across all divisions?
Basketball as a whole in Region A isn't that popular. Softball and volleyball are the sports of choice. That, combined with the fact that most girls only play the sport when it's in season, in my opinion plays a huge part in it. There just aren't enough quality teams in the Region, so when they get to state, they aren't used to the physical style of play. When Surry was in Region A, they had some really good teams and Lancaster had several good teams back in the day as well, but all in all, I think it just boils down to teams not practicing year around to gain that comraderie that you see the teams from out West have.
