It's that time for the number crunchers....tell us in your infinite wisdoms the probable rankings and top 16......WE the fans really do appreciate it

There are 4 tiers.

Tier 1: Appomattox, Graham, Richlands. Barring some sort of crazy upset with Graham, this will be the top 3 in some order.

Tier 2: Dan River, Union, Glenvar. Those three are pretty much locked into 4-6.

Tier 3: Martinsville, Giles, Marion, Grundy, Lee, Gate City. These guys will finish 7-12 in some order.

Tier 4: Floyd, Battle, Lebanon, James River, Wise Central, Tazewell, Va. High, Gretna, Ridgeview. These guys will fight for the final 4 spots. Gretna, Ridgeview, Va. High, Tazewell, and Lebanon are all in must win situations.

My predicted order of finish is:
1. Appo
2. Graham
3. Richlands
4. Dan River
5. Union
6. Glenvar
7. Martinsville
8. Giles
9. Marion
10. Grundy
11. Lee
12. Gate City
13. Floyd
14. Battle
15. Tazewell
16. Ridgeview

Thanks....just was wondering where Giles would probably end up....they lost 3 tight questionable games and have made some changes and gotten healthy....I think they could play with anyone....

Let's say Appomattox loses to Amherst....how's this shake up things...will graham jump to the #1 seed....just talk some possibilities since Appomattox has a tough game and Richlands has a bye...what's the scenarios

If Appomattox loses this week then Graham will for sure be the #1 seed and Appomattox & Richlands will be within a few points of each other for the 2/3 seeds.

Top 4 is going to be interesting. Graham is going to be #1 or #2 depending on Appo. Grundy losing to Ridgeview hurt Richlands, and it may come down to Va High as to whether Richlands is #2 or #4 in a battle of 9-1 teams.

Appo will be #1 if they are 10-0, but them beating Amherst could impact Dan River's being the #3 or #4 seed.

Given the following games. Winner is in bold.

Appomattox - Buckingham/Prince Edward, Rustburg/EC Glass,Heritage/Liberty
Dan River - MagnaVista/GW(Danville) ,Bartlett Yancey/Graham(NC), Tunstall/Bassett, Martinsville/Patrick Co, Appo/Amherst
Richlands - Graham/Narrows, Va High/Lee, Union/Battle, Marion/Abingdon

1.) Appomattox 10-0 288 28.8
2.) Graham 9-1 279 27.9
3.) Richlands 9-1 271 27.1
4.) Dan River 9-1 270 27

Same games with Appo losing to Amherst

1.) Graham 9-1 279 27.9
2.) Richlands 9-1 271 27.1
3.) Appomattox 9-1 269 26.9
4.) Dan River 9-1 269 26.9

I have NO idea who wins the tiebreakers.

Head to head would break that tie breaker I would assume

For Dan River and Appomattox, but what happens if Va High loses to Lee? Who wins the tiebreaker with Richlands? Name out of a hat? It may get screwy. Lol.

Union v. Gate City in first round?!? That might be worth the 6 hour or so ride.

If Va High beats Lee this Friday then GC will face Glenvar instead of Union. I don't forsee GC playing Union as close a 2nd time around. The Devils played pretty well the first meeting......Union just has too many weapons I think for them to pull the upset. I think if they face off again it will be a 14-17 pt game in Unions favor. Hope I'm wrong....would love to see GC get at least one win in the playoffs after starting out 0-5 this season.

Wonder how GC and Glenvar would match up? Would it be better for GC to draw Union or Glenvar? I don't really know what all Glenvar has.

I agree. A rematch will probably not be as close as the earlier game. Glenvar is probably a better draw for GC than Union except that they are an unfamiliar opponent. Glenvar is not as good as last year, but they are stilll a very strong team.

Playing against any sort of offensive speed will kill GC. If a team is pass heavy with speed or has a running attack with speed its a long game for the Devils. But if a team has a balanced attack but relies more on power the Devils can do pretty well. So I'm guessing the same as you, Glenvar may be the best draw for GC....or possibly Marion.

Coinflip? I'm not sure lol. That is a crazy way to settle a tie.

I know it's doesn't have nearly the same magnitude considering there is no post season play to Junior Varsity ball......but from what I heard thats the way the JV boys basketball matchup was decided last year. I think they pretty much flipped a coin between Union and Ridgeview to see who was going to get to play against GC. I dont know this to be facts, but it's what I was told from several people.

Gate City actually faced Glenvar in the jamboree at Graham. Glenvar won 12-7. That's the scrimmage Collier hurt his ankle. GC took the ball down and scored in 7 plays on the opening drive. But Glenvar answered then GC had a fumble in their own territory that set up a quick Glenvar score. Collier went down with the ankle injury then we went flat. Would be a good matchup I believe.

As a GC fan, I hope whoever we play if it's Union, Dan River, Martinsville, or Glenvar, we are well prepared, healthy, and give it 110%. Then you never know what can happen.

I believe glenvar had 7 or so starters suspended that day. That's what I was told anyway. It looks like they're playing much better now.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

They got a new kicker a couple of weeks ago too. I hear she is pretty good.

I wouldn't rely on any thing from a scrimmage in August for many reasons. Pretty much worthless information. Glenvar had four or five of it's top players out in that one and teams are usually much different by the end of the season.

Yes. She was "discovered" during the powder puff game when she kicked a 25 yard field goal that would have been good from 35. After the required practices, vetting by the AD etc., she came in last week and kicked 6 or 7 extra points or. They all had good height and distance. Looking forward to see if she can kick field goals under pressure. Hope she gets that opportunity against Floyd.

Trust me, I have played enough ball and watched enough ball to know that. I was just stating a fact that GC and Glenvar got to see each other this summer. Because some people might of not known that. Gate City is certainly not the same team they were at the first of August as I'm sure Glenvar isn't either. Teams get better and find their true identity. GC's main offensive package isn't even the same as it was Week 0.

I agree. I was really replying to obguthr. It wasn't 6-7. It was more like five players that missed the scrimmage. I hope we played GC. That would be a welcome change from playing Giles like we have the last few years. Looks more and more like a Giles/Glenvar game wouldn't happen until a regional semi or state championship final.
