Until Friday night,I never realized how important depth was.

A friend of mine rewatched the game, and noticed how well HSHS used their depth to control the second half. One area,in particular stood out. I’ve always based success off the starters, but eventually, those guys need a break. Great coaching job by the Springers staff, having faith in 23-44. Anyone can be good 1-22,but a coaches faith in their depth builds confidence in the entire group!

I rewatched some of what my friend saw,and he was correct! Great job coaches!

Very true I was talking with a guy at the game too about how quality backups win games in December, I also rewatched the game and saw that on the point after kick at the 1:54:37 mark Manchester had 12 guys on the field. Good thing HSHS didn't need the points.

They not only win games in December, but they make the following year a very smooth transition, after the seniors leave. Being able to use depth, in KEY situations, and not miss a beat,is a credit to the coaching. Anyone can use depth at the end of the game, but to use the depth early in the game prepares for later in the season and next year. A lot of people have been saying all year how deep this team was, but I didn’t realize it until this game.

The Springers have been preparing their backup quarterback, all season, and he was able to lead a successful drive,at the end of the game, for a touchdown....under pressure.

How many coaches,do you know, would leave certain starters on the bench,to START a game,so they are fresher later, knowing your depth can hold things down and give them experience? I’m thinking that will come in handy later!!

Few teams have that luxury. What I do often see is the second or third string RB is saved until after halftime, and then put in when fresh legs matter.

I know a lot of teams like to do that. Some like the one “star” back to get in a “groove”. I’m partial to the fresh legs every series type. Most teams can’t do that though.

It is the difference in winning at state championship, if you don't have it... you have to hope everything goes perfect! No injuries... etc. How often in life is a journey perfect in anything let alone football??? Almost never

Depth wears anybody down if I can throw bodies at you all night I can beat you up. When those bodies aren’t showing a drop off it’s clockwork.
