SOUTHAMPTON 7 #2 SUSSEX CENTRAL 0

Southampton came in with a plan and they executed that plan to perfection as they went blow for blow with the Tigers and got the knockout shot in the 4th quarter to topple the previous Tri-Rivers top dog 7-0.

The Tigers defense played more than good enough to win the contest but the offense was a no show thanks to the defensive planning of the Indians. Southampton just wanted a chance and they actually had several throughout the game to force Sussex Central into a more aggressive and risky approach.

Hall's block was the start of a big momentum swing for the Indians in the 2nd half.

After a scoreless first half that shows no sign of point production due to hard noise defense, Southampton forced the Tigers offense to line up for a punt inside their own 15. Jonathan Hall would make what looked to be the play of the game as he would block the Tigers punt with 2:47 left in the 3rd and the Indians would bring the power-I offense to do the rest. From the 6 yard line the Indian ball carrier would be stripped by the Tiger’s Trevon Hatch killing the celebratory emotion the temporary rushed the Southampton sideline.

Hatch makes the key play to prevent the Indians from capitalizing on a punt block.

Sussex Central was feeling the pressure in the 4th quarter as the offense tried to go deep but Clyde Edmond’s attempt to Lorenzo Stirrup would be intercepted at the Tigers 38-yard line. Then the wear and tear would finally show on the Sussex Central’s defense. Hall would get a big run deep into the secondary of the Tigers and the fans of Southampton would come alive.

Southampton's Hall got going big time in the 4th quarter.

The 6 foot 2, 240lb fullback had set his team up for the go ahead touchdown and then from the 1-yard line a quarterback sneak would just get over the goal line with 9:46 remaining to play. Sussex Central would get big run from Hatch to get the ball just outside the Southampton 30 but like all other times on the night, the Tigers offense will sputter out of control.

Hatch would rush for 91 yards on the night and the Tigers (3-1) will face off versus Windsor for their homecoming. Southampton will travel to Lawrenceville to face the Brunswick Bulldogs.

WASHINGTON & LEE 34 KING WILLIAM 30

Following an onside kick recovery and the go ahead touchdown by Corey Stewart, King William appeared poised to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season. Carson Bell and company had other plans. Bell would find Shane McNeil for the 13-yard touchdown pass to take the league while Jacob Ristau hit the critical extra point to make a field goal to tie not an option. The Cavaliers (0-4) rushed for 248 yards and the Eagles (4-0) passed for 275.
