3A Thomas Jefferson coming to Essex. Thomas Jefferson has taken some lumps in their football history, but they seem to have some life this season with a D1 player on the field. I believe the Rapp Times said he has committed to Villanova. I think he carries the ball a lot at running back, but they will feature him at receiver some as well. I still think the Trojans can pull it out, but it will be interesting to see how they handle an elite playmaker.

Colonial Beach traveling to West Point. West Point will have a chance to prove they belong in the talk about the best teams in the state. I think they are atop of the power points rankings in Region A (early I know) and hang their hat on defense. Not to mention they have a good back as well putting up some impressive numbers this season. Not going to lie and act like I don't see CB being a heavy favorite, but that is why they play the game. Both teams will leave it on the field and the outcome should tell us more about both teams. Good luck to everyone playing this week!

I would also add Northumberland traveling toTrinity Episcopal. I do not know much about Trinity, but it has set up for some good matchups over the past two seasons.

Northumberland at Trinity Episcopal in Richmond, Virginia.

This one concerns me for the Indians. While Trinity has lost three games this season, they were to strong private schools Collegiate, St. Christopher's and Norfolk Academy. Just two years, Trinity won the VISAA Division II State title. Trinity now competes in the tough Private Division I.

Northumberland won a close and exciting game at home over Trinity last season, 32-26.

Last year's result plus the big NND Essex game next week may have the Indians overconfident and/or looking ahead. They better be focused on Trinity especially since the Indians will be without the services of NHS stars Palmer, Lee, and Kelly plus the FB, Christian, who are all out I am told.

If NHS wins it, that will really be impressive to me without those guys.

Trinity still has that star and their top weapon Senior Tink Boyd (WR and RB, 6-0, 185) and Patrick Way. Boyd must be contained. Trinity has a new QB Jr. Taylor Eggers (6-5. 225).

Trinity likes to throw slants to the middle and completes many long passes down the sideline with a balanced run attack. Trinity returns 7 starters on D and runs a 4-2 scheme I think.

Should be a tough one!

3A Thomas Jefferson has their star RB Jalen Jackson (5-10, 215, who has also played WR and QB). Yes, it will be an interesting challenge for the Trojans.

What a great job TJ has done building their program back up. TJ Head Coach P.J. Adams had a nice quote about Essex in the Rapp Times paper...

"Essex is a great program and has a storied history. No matter the VHSL classification, Essex wins and is a program one day I hope to model Thomas Jefferson after."
