Through out the year one of Salems most devastating plays was the pitch power sweep to Ramsey. The Spartans used it to great success all year. Interestingly Salem did not run that play one time in the State Finals against Louisa. They did pitch it once to Tucker (resulted in a fumble that Salem recovered). I wonder why the Spartans ditched that play for this game? No criticizim intended at all, just curious.

Why risk a pitch when a simple off-tackle hand-off couldn't be stopped?

YeA, but the pitch had been an intregal part of the offense even when everything was working. What was it about Louisas personal or defensive set that made them decide not to run it? They would usually run it four or five times a game.

Again, why run it when the off-tackle play averaged 40 yards a call? There was no point. That is the reason Coach Mags is a true legend with the best staff in the state. They know when to keep it simple, when to dig deeper, and make in-game adjustments. But to answer your question @southbottomU, Louisa has shown great speed against pitch plays all season, usually resulting in losses on the play.

Exactly. Salem kept it simple, as always, and made it look easy.
Give your team some credit , they played with heart and got back into the game in the third quarter. Ramsey was the difference for Salem and if Louisa had a little more balance offensively it could have been a different outcome. Nothing to be ashamed of , Louisa played hard. Salem is just Salem. Great program .

Louisa's alignment kind of took that away. The DEs play a little bit wider, run well and are very contain focused. They also have guys like Smith at LB that run too well sideline-to-sideline. Most teams against Salem tried to have their DEs in position to help more inside but Louisa felt like they could defend the sweep with their alignment and have an extra guy in the box to limit in the inside running.

Salem averaged almost 10 yards a carry. That pretty much sums it up. Louisa ,if they didn't control clock in.the third quarter and part of fourth with long drives which consumed clock may have given up a lot more points. Salem offense carried the game, along with defense that made enough stops.
