Maybe just a good conversation we can all have here. I think last year everyone pretty much knew Appo was team to beat and not much debate over that. They were just that good. It could be the same this year, I have not seen them play. I however can't see them being as good as last year. I can't speak about to many teams on east side either. Why I'm hoping everyone gets involved here. Giles, Glenvar, Graham,Union and a few others in my opinion are good but not great. Any could be beat on a given night. I think u could play Giles and Glenvar 10 times and it possibly be split 5 to 5, just my opinion. Marion is much improved but weak schedule will catch up with them in long run. Not a shot there at all, just how I see it. I think it's wide open this year and comes down to who peaks at right time. I still think Appo is favorite but not a lock like last year. Thoughts?

I'm same as you, only familiar with the West. I think the West produces the champion, whether it be Appo, Graham, Union, Giles or Glenvar but I don't think any team is as big of a favorite as Appomattox was last season. Homefield could be huge this year.

Not seen enough teams play to even begin to pick a dominant team this year. I do know when Appo is on they are on! But I have seen them play and I was like where this team come from when they are not even close to clicking.

To answer your question honestly and succinctly, yes there's a dominant team this year and it's Appo. Instead of being 28-30 points better than the next closest couple of teams last year, they are still 10-14 points better than the next closest couple of teams this year.

Appo is not close to what they were, but, what they were was head and shoulders over others last year.
They are good and if they are in the zone that night they will be a team nobody would hoped they got matched up against. Not saying the couldn't lose but they would be a tough out and it would take a really good team to do it.

I think they are the favorite but they are much closer to other teams than previous years.
2015 Richlands team was the only one close.

Hearin puquoson but I have to see it. Appo in breeze I'm afraid.
I was expecting Poquoson to be a contender before the season started. After close calls with Tabb and Bruton, I'm not so sure. Yeah, they beat the tar out of Grafton, but who hasn't? They will still give Goochland a game and they've shown they can win the close ones, but I don't think they will make it to Salem.

2015 Richlands was better than Appo in my opinion. Only my opinion. I watched that game and it was all but over until the last 6-7 minutes. If Richlands converts 2 more first downs, Appo would have been beat. Richlands pulled a choke job in that game (not trying to be offensive Richlands fans) but that's what happened. They were up 14pts and driving with a chance to go up by 21 pts, and completely came unglued. Richlands in my opinion was a slightly (not by much) but slightly better team. The game never should have went to OT.

Well remember Appo fumbled twice inside their 10 I believe in the first half.
I truly think that was the state championship that year.

Appo would be my favorite by at least 10 points over any other contender if i placed my money where my mouth is. In the 2nd tier I would put Graham, Giles, Union, Glenvar as equal teams very capable of knocking off Appo. Appo has shown more weaknesses this year than they have the last two but it is going to take a great offensive and defensive night to beat them as they are confident and well coached. It is really tough to beat a team that truly down believes they are the best. Teams like that always find a way to beat you. I will be rooting for any of the four above to beat them. I love the underdogs unless they are playing my team. haha.

Appo rightfully should be the favorite until someone takes the title from them. This could be the year. Any of the following could do it:
Graham
Giles
Glenvar
Goochland
Glarke
Gentral- Woodstock

Don't forget Guffalo Gap. The Gison could get hot and go all the way!!!

I with you Bob, Appo fumbled the ball on the 3 yard line when phillip bobbled snap. that was 7 points gone. I not recalling another fumble, but I remember Matt throwing a INT on inside the 5 yard line. That one WR (Howie) has JETS for legs....he caught phillip and Matt on two open runs down field from behind. Any other night in 2A football, that would have been 2 scores. I think Graves was only one on field that could run as fast at that guy.

Luca... you call it CHOKING...I call it heart from Appo that won that game. Appo wanted it more! We even gave yall a chance to win it after Jamerson missed the XPT. We had to go for 2 pt conversion, not to mention there was a false start and we had to go for 2 pt conversion with ball moved back. BEST GAME I HAVE EVER WITNESSED in high school football.

I was wrong. It was the INT inside the 5 and then the fumble. Two turn overs I should have said.
Just watched most of the game today. What a game!!!!!!!!!
I don't think I fell asleep till 3 or 4 that next morning. I was all jacked up.

And they left all the signs on the fence for the janitors to clean up. Appomattox never leaves the trash on visitor fences. Richlands fans were shouting obscenities as they were walking out saying they were cheated and paid off refs through the fence line. One dude had the nerve to inbox the FB page several times saying we will never reach Salem because he
Knows people that KNOWS people to take the Win away due to poor reffing. They couldnt get out of there fast enough. You jacked up to 3 or 4??? I dont think I slept that night. Probably the most excited I have been in years except when they won it all in Salem.

I think you know why I remembered that INT? LOL

What I hate about that DVD of game is it didnt catch the tackle on Richlands RB that made him fumble in end zone.

Folks I talked to were more than polite. Bad apples in all bunches I guess. Spoke to a bunch of them at State game that were nice too.
What a thriller it was!!! State game was awesome but not the same drama.

I dont have that dvd sure wish i did. The thing i remember most is when all the fans pointed to the sky and started shouting PO1. Thats is when Coach called a time out and told the players to look at the fans and to play their hearts out. Well as we know they did just that!

I will never forget that memory to the day I die! What a special season that was to live through. Love going out volunteering to clean up with them after tornadoes as well.

Most call it a choke bc Richlands had a chance to ice the game late for all intents and purposes and fell apart. Richlands made their mistakes late, that's where the choke moniker is often labeled.

Didn't know coach said that.
Gosh that just stirs the emotions up again.
I do remember very vividly the whole crowd chanting PO1

You have to remember after that first Appo fumble they strip Richlands running back in endzone for TD. So that fumble really didnt mean anything. Thats the only points Appo scored til the 4th qrtr. Watched the game on film but wouldve loved to have been there. But not the best high school game ive watched. Most exciting game i watched would have to be VHS and Richlands in the playoffs. VHS had the lead with time running out in Richlands territory. And if i remember correctly they couldve just kneeled and ran it out. But decided to keep running the ball and Ben Brown gets in the backfield and literally takes the ball from the running back and takes it 80 yards for the win. 2nd time he had done that that year. Was a crazy ending.

Richlands played not to lose should have played to win Appomattox just had to much heart and they hated to lose more than they love to win just my opinion and mine only

Pretty sure that fumble in endzone was from a punt pinning them at the one. Then the two turn overs for Appomattox came.

Not so sure. Would have to see the video again. I may be wrongbut i thought for sure it was after the fumble,

I believe that the state champ will come from...... wait for it....... Region, wait for it ........D. Or C. Well maybe A or B. LoL!! All I know is there are a lot of teams in 2A this year that are capable of getting hot and running the table. 1A is a two team race, well I guess if you really think about it. Every class is. LoL

All joking aside. I think you will find Giles County in there in the end. This team had a lot of questions starting out the season. They have answered those questions and gotten better every week. So look out boys, they’re going to bring the whole bucket this year. Some of y’all know what I’m talking about.

Don’t know the story behind this but got chill bumps reading it.
