It's Official...Woody to Charlottesville

Woody was named head coach of the Charlottesville High School Football Program this afternoon!

CHS moves back up to Class 4 next fall, and Region 4D is going to be crazy competitive.
Charlottesville is extremely lucky and blessed to have him! Trust the process! Woody is one of the greats!

@one man if it's what you desire I hope you get the chance to stay on staff. You have worked very hard and been very loyal to the program. Thanks for being an excellent example for the kids. We need more like you.
Thanks for the kind words BN. I've known Jeff for over a decade now. He tried to get me to flip sides and join him at Monticello in 2013 and again at Glass after 2016 season when Lace, G and Rob left for Fleming. Utmost respect for what he has accomplished and look forward to learning from and working with him. As my mother-in-law always says, this is a part of gods will. My time to become a HC will come. I will remain on staff as the Defensive Coordinator. We've got some solid pieces returning next year but our '26 class may be the best I've seen in my 9 years here, we just have to make sure we hold on to all of them. I expect 5-6 of them to start on varsity as Sophomores this fall. "We Coming" like Coach Prime says!

Amen brother. I told @DinwiddieProud how much I enjoyed talking football with you several years ago when we scrimmaged Glass in Lynchburg. I was so very impressed with the gentle way you played with and talked to the child sitting by you as well. You won us both over that day. It about the kids man and any school looking for a coach that can relate to players ought to be looking your way. Keep up God's work it's going to happen. I don't know if you want to drive, but the Mills Godwin job is a good one.

Coach, who's on the non-district schedule next year? I know James Monroe has been out of the cycle for a bit but I know Woody had some epic games with them when he was at Brookville.

Glad you are sticking around-one of the most loyal out there!

I had the pleasure of meeting @one man in 2017 when Charlottesville came to Salem for the playoffs. I was just outside the home locker room after the game and he spotted me and introduced himself and congratulated me. Really nice young man. I remember the beast mode matchup at RB. Sabias Folley (now at Towson) and DeAngelo Ramey. Charlottesville kept fighting till the end. I look forward to future playoff matchups.

I remember this game...though it wasn't close I was always proud of the fact that we hung the most points on Salem in the playoffs that year, 34!

(we gave up 70)

There are a lot of opportunities with your schedule to accumulate points and make the playoffs. You just need to win about 5 or six games and you should play and extra game or two.

If Coach Woody has the players to play a faster pace, aggressive, option type of offense, you will surprise a few teams.

I’m my opinion: The key is confidence. When the players are confident in their training and preparation, they play more aggressively. And acting aggressively naturally means faster play. That shifts an advantage even more to the offense. Especially at the high school level. The offense already knows where the play is going, the defense has to read and react. A faster scheme leaves less time to respond accurately.

And when your defense is used to practicing against an offense like this, it develops their confidence and improves their aggression and speed. The bottom line, speed kills. At the high school level, it provides a decided advantage. Act quick, react quick, and let the opponent be thinking while you are taking action. But again, it all is anchored in confidence gained from your preparation.

Hummmm……, come to think of it, isn’t this part of the key to being successful in life?
