Jamboree

Waynesboro, Central Woodstock, and Stonewall Jackson. Riverheads plays Stonewall @2 then Central. Not sure why there aren’t the usual 5 teams lineup plus the host but that’s the last I heard on participants.

11:00-12:30 Stonewall vs Waynesboro
12:30-2:00 Central vs Waynesboro
2:00-3:30 Stonewall vs Riverheads
3:30-5:00 Central vs Riverheads

Just talking to a few people they are saying Riverheads should be pretty descent I would have figured may be down a little this year so should be interesting to see how it works out. I won’t give my cold weather clothes away just yet.

I would bout put money on them being right there at the end once again.....

It comes down to the same two things every year, line play and reforming the D around the players available. If the line plays well then the skill position players don't really matter in my humble opinion. That's not to take away from what could be a very good backfield, but I don't think this O requires a superstar to be successful. There are some studs back there this year again but time will tell if they can get it rolling. On D it will be a little more difficult due to losing on the line, at LB and at DB. I still see 7-8 wins and a good playoff run but probably not as dominate a team as the recent past. I think there are several teams to keep an eye on outside of G'ville with three in particular I believe will factor heavily in deciding the eventual State Champion.

Who are the 3 teams you are thinking will factor in if you don't mind me asking?

1. My lock to be in the semi's will be Patrick Henry GS from region D.
2. Galax will almost assuredly be their opponent with another year in their "new" look O representing region C.
3. In region A I believe the hype about Rapp so I am on jumping on that bandwagon. That said I wouldn't be surprised to have a wild card like Northumberland represent since the region usually have 3-4 contenders (nobody better sleep on Essex either).
4. In region B I think it is Riverheads, Sussex and William Campbell and in no particular order. Sussex is a little unknown to me for this year but their fans are talking up this year and the next several as good chances to win it all (young athletic QB and skill players galore). William Campbell has several very good players coming back that were just young last year. The playoffs should have grown that team so they will be a handful.

I am sorry I expanded on the number of teams but I do believe there are 5-6 with a legitimate shot to hoist the trophy. I would like to think Riverheads will be favored but I truly believe that PHGS, Galax, and Rapp will be the cream of the crop this year.

If Galax stays healthy they should be a handful for anyone this year but that is a big if....

hey red pride nation, what teams in regular season do u think will beat riverheads, if the o line plays well, they should light up the scoreboard, lost a lot of talent, and have lots of youngsters, next man up, GO BIG RED

Glenvar will be a tuff test and Stuart’s draft will be good as well they win those they may just go unbeaten

Along with those mentioned, East Rock will be a challenge with their familiarity and athleticism across the field. Plus with last years dominate win, they believe they can win.
I am also hesitant to pencil in wins against our two region A opponents for two reasons. First off, slow starts (in regards to execution) and adjustments are part of the first third of the schedule every year. Second, those teams are unknowns to us. Could be they are able to spread the D and score at will. That’s the fun of different matchups. Challenge the norm and find out what needs to be worked on.

Can’t wait for the Friday night lights.

RedprideNation hey how can I connect with your youth football program, I would love to visit the Valley to compete ?

I will see if I can get in touch with someone but I believe the overall area program is administered by the Augusta County Quarterback Club with each area LL having their own "club" if you will. We start with a kickoff jamboree this weekend, then we go directly into our season schedule so I am not sure about availability. Just thinking if you reach out to the Quarterback Club, it might be an opportunity to come to the jamboree next year though and play multiple teams in a condensed time frame.

Not sure if the Spartan teams are still together but that could possibly be an option for them as well. Although it has combined kids from several schools there were quite a few Riverheads kids on the roster a few years ago.
