I know people want to keep dogging the JF D, however, I don't think y'all have seen them play these past two weeks against explosive offenses. Beating MV 40-0 before some (not all) backups go in. Final 53-20. Just saying, they are looking to play into December.

Magna Vista had three turnovers in the red zone going in and were stopped on fourth down at the JF 7.

That is a dangerous way to live if you want to be a championship defense.

That is true. However, they force turnovers and make big plays in the clutch. Too dangerous for my liking but they're making stops.

Magna Vista isn't nearly as good as last year. They were in a shootout with Byrd a team Salem easily handled. I'm not comparing Salem and JF here, I think they are very evenly matched. On a state scale if JF makes it to the finals against LT for example they will be in for a rude awakening. JF is good but last year's Salem team was beat upfront on both sides of the ball. LT's line play may not get the attention that the skill players or secondary get, but they are awesome upfront.

Yeah LT will be tough. But I think they've got a good shot of at least making it to that game is all I'm saying

@VaPrepsRod can you give your opinion on those teams, please?

JF is the most dangerous offensively when Jones is healthy. He is scary fast and quick with his cuts. I'm not yet sure how well their defense will hold up through five playoff games though.

Salem is Salem. Not much has changed there. They won't beat themselves and no one in the West will out-talent them. Play them close and make a fourth quarter play and they can be beat. Make mistakes and they will run you out of the building.

Sherando probably has the best defense but they can be defending well by teams with good skill position athletes. They won't hit a lot of 50+ yard plays against top level playoff competition but they keep the chains moving. Beat them in field position game and you can win.

Woodgrove seems to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder after last season feeling like they let the Salem game slide away from them. They are big up front and will cause problems for everyone along the line of scrimmage. Their RB is very good but not yet sure how many other options that they have. Defensively good with the potential to be a shutdown unit. Scarier for teams out west than in past seasons.

Champe has a great culture in place and they are building a championship program but, ultimately, I think that they will be hurt by facing three 4A playoff teams in a row for the first time. Good enough to beat anyone, not sure if they are experienced enough yet.

GW-Danville is another program building a new culture and they are thinking big. Explosive on offense despite some big losses from graduation. Traveling their will be no picnic for anyone. Not sure where they are defensively right now. Might still be a year or two away from being top-flight contender.

Okay, enough for now...
