This is a very interesting contest with two teams with powerful offenses and ? for their defenses. the district was so weak this year how do you know how good they really are especially with very inept offenses in the district this year.these two teams move the ball in entirely different ways. JM air force and courtland army! courtland relys on their three headed monsters George cheetham, anton Jenkins and victor green to carry the load where as the jackets have 3 or 4 great receivers lead by Keyshawn Johnson, darius leacock, tevon lucas and Kendrick wilkins capable of taking to the house with one missed tackle! now this doesn't mean JM can't run or courtland can't pass. the cougars have a gifted qb Jabari allen and a speedy receiver in nick grant and sometime they bring in the back up qb trevor foster switching the gifted allen to wr making grant and green a dynamic duo in the passing game. on the other hand the jackets have two speedy runners in Vincent eura and jewan davis and short yardage battering ram Antonio wynn coleman with qb jay scroggins a definite threat on the ground keeping the cougars defense off scroggins so he has time to pass.
first of all if this game is to be close it is a must that JM be able to control the mighty cougars three headed monsters cheetham, jenkins and green to have any chance. I said control them not stop them as I don't think the jackets defense can do that as not many did this year.now coach griffin with all due respect to you this imo is how I feel this can happen.
teams seem to run away from wynn coleman so imo I would run several defenses against the courtland offense and have coleman to not line up in the same spot every time. run a 5 and let him play nose guard sometime and keep the courtland line not knowing who to block. the way to stop the wing t is to blow up the middle and who is better than wynn coleman.the JM line backers scroggins and Able need to tackle well and have great games. also they need to stay at home and play a step or two deeper than normal so the miss direction wing t plays will run into where the backers are playing rather them up close and the backs past them if they are not staying at home. also in the wing t the pulling guards about 90% of the time tells you where the ball is being run. one of the best people that success in stopping the t bob oliver back in the day when he had the horses had a lot of success in stopping the wing t against tim coleman and ken brown wing t legends. this was the key to his success as he told me that many times.if JM can do this I feel courtland can't beat them through the air. JM must keep courtland behind the sticks and keep them second and third down in long yardage.
Now what must the cougars do to win? everyone knows they need to run the ball to be successful and not turn it over or get penalties to keep them in long yardage. if they get a pile of penalties and turn the ball over 2 or more times they lose. I really believe if someway JM can curtail the cougars running game and force the cougars to pass they have a good chance to beat courtland. also all year critics have picked on the JM defense but how good is the cougar defense? the last good offensive team they played was a young Louisa team and gave up a ton of yardage almost 500 yards and a bunch of points. we know what happened when they played ponax! so are they that good and how will they hold up against another good offensive team like JM? one weakness I feel the jackets can exploit is the cougar db's. a not very physical group and they better be able to tackle or those JM rockets will take it to the house. that sophomore db dakota woodward is really going to be a good one but is vulnerable as a tackler and a good cover man but can he and the others cover the JM awesome receivers! also the cougars will need to get a lot of pressure on scroggins as there is not another qb in the state is as accurate as anybody. I look for the jackets to screen and draw to keep the cougar defense honest. once again how good is the cougar defense! we shall see Friday night as this was the cougars bug a boo in the playoffs last year. the two good offensive teams they played this year torched them so now we should be able to tell!
Now who do I think will win? I really believe this will be a close game most of the way.last years loss to courtland will give the jackets a lot of adrenaline and is the intangible force that will give the jackets a good chance to win along with everybody and their brother picking them to lose and playing at maury. I'm sure the jackets are tired of hearing it by now but you know what; I feel they have a good chance to beat the cougars. but that being said I feel the courtland offense will finally wear down the jacket defense in the 4th quarter and pull it out. for the jackets to win they will have to get 2 courtland turnovers and score at least 2 times with their special teams. don't think it will happen but the jackets will give a monumental effort but lose 35 to 21. that's my prediction been wrong many times and the best thing is no one will lose this game as both teams will have a home game in the playoffs so good luck to both teams!
