Press release from Virginia Beach City Public Schools...

Ocean Lakes High School (OLHS) has named Joseph R. Jones as the new head coach for the OLHS varsity football team. He will also join the OLHS teaching staff as a physical education teacher at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

Jones met with the team for the first time today and will begin working with players during off-season conditioning sessions.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Jones to the Dolphin family and look forward to starting a new chapter in the Ocean Lakes football program,” said OLHS Principal Dr. Cheryl Askew. “His experiences playing football at the collegiate and professional levels bring a depth of knowledge and skill that will benefit our entire team.”

Jones played football at Virginia Tech from 1980-1984 and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1985. During his NFL career, he played for the Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Oilers, Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts.

Jones currently serves as the head football coach at King’s Fork High School in Suffolk, Virginia. At King’s Fork since 2008, Jones previously coached at Smithfield and Windsor high schools in Isle of Wight County, Virginia; and Franklin High School, in Franklin, Virginia. In addition, following his time in the NFL, Jones returned to Virginia Tech to be part of the coaching staff.

The Ocean Lakes Dolphins have won the past four Beach District titles for football, and were the 2014 state champions.
