It's no secret WP is going thru a down year due mainly to defections by key players who were expected to carry the team. Had these kids played, WP would finish above 500 easily. But a young group of kids has stepped up and are gaining confidence each week. They only have about 4 kids that are not JV eligible on the Varsity program. The ones who are left are a tough gritty bunch with no give up. And now it seems the JV squad is going to step up and compete as well with a great group of tough kids who have been playing together since they were 6 yrs old. It's just one game, but anyone who watched it has to be excited for the future of WP football. These kids are going to compete, and compete well. The final score is a little misleading as WP had 2 TD's called back, and the Defense only gave up 1TD. Northampton made a great play by stripping the ball and running it back for a score.

Jackets JV coach here. Yep, you all played a great, tough game. Reminded me of WP teams I saw a few years ago-- disciplined and gritty. Congrats to coach Carter. Also, just want to thank everyone for all their help after the game. We had two players taken away by ambulance, and I can't thank the trainers, EMT's, school employees and parents enough for all their help. Been around a lot of football, and never had two go out in the meat wagon. What a night! We managed to get everyone home on the team bus after a wait at W'burg Sentara. Arrived in Eastville at 2 a.m. Thanks again, and can't wait to see you all next year. Best of luck for the season.

Hey Coach. Thanks for the update. I hope both young men are ok. You, too, have a great bunch of young guys that play hard. It's great that you have the number of kids come out for both varsity and JV this year. Looking forward to seeing you guys after they have a couple of seasons under their belts. Best of luck the rest of the year!
