K&Q @ WP postponed

Guys, no offense here, but I've never seen so many games canceled in that portion of Virginia in all my life. I'm serious. It seems like it has to be an act of congress to play a football game. I mean....if there's a traffic accident on the side of the road, 'game cancelled." I've just never really seen anything like it .

Would you prefer it if they played the game and spread the HFM virus to the other team?

My senior year, we canceled a game for athletes feet. Out team had an outbreak and we were scared of the very deadly athletes feet spreading to the opponent. LOL!

God help us in 2022. God help us.
Do you anything

Do you know how contagious it is? Or maybe I shouldn't have asked you since you got a smart mouth

I hear ya brother - lol.

It is ridiculous how many games get cancelled or postponed these days!

I heard someone might have a cold - maybe we should cancel the game. It might rain pretty hard next week - we best postpone the game tonight….in an overabundance of caution....

Didn’t some of these people make fun of Northumberland for moving the Essex game when there was an actual threat of violence?

I grew up in the 80s - I don’t remember hardly any sports games being cancelled back in the day.…maybe I just remember or think that people were more resilient in the old days….

No, what i questioned was why one particular team (NU) has cancelled multiple games the last two years and if they are gaming the system.....in this case we have a highly contagious virus that has a pretty good number of kids that were sent home from school on Friday which would exclude them from playing. Enough that we wouldn't have enough to field a team, AND run the risk of spreading it to the K&Q team putting them in a position where they might not be able to play the following week. It's not a cold, it's not athletes foot and It has nothing to do with how resilient or tough you were in the 80's.

2) I do indeed think that a lot of it has to do with a lack of toughness and all the strange changes occurring or being forced on society.

Has anyone noticed that major problems like mental illness, drug overdoses, and homelessness etc. seem to get only way worse as the Government or some organizations say they are addressing these issues?

Again, I am talking Big Picture here...

Three of the best run athletic departments in small school Virginia in my opinion are Riverheads, Rappahannock, and Auburn. They seem to run things mostly in what I consider the old school way.

Maybe it is just a coincidence that all three schools are highly successful in both academics and athletics.

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease

Overview

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children. Symptoms include sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is most commonly caused by a coxsackievirus.
There's no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Frequent hand-washing and avoiding close contact with people who have hand-foot-and-mouth disease may help lower your child's risk of infection.

Products & Services

Symptoms

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease may cause all of the following symptoms or only some of them. They include:
  • Fever.
  • Sore throat.
  • Feeling sick.
  • Painful, blister-like lesions on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks.
  • A rash on the palms, soles and sometimes the buttocks. The rash is not itchy, but sometimes it has blisters. Depending on skin tone, the rash may appear red, white, gray, or only show as tiny bumps.
  • Fussiness in infants and toddlers.
  • Loss of appetite.
The usual period from initial infection to the time symptoms appear (incubation period) is 3 to 6 days. Children may get a fever and develop a sore throat. They sometimes lose their appetites and don't feel well.
One or two days after the fever begins, painful sores may develop in the front of the mouth or throat. A rash on the hands and feet and sometimes on the buttocks may also appear.
Sores that develop in the back of the mouth and throat may suggest a related viral illness called herpangina. Other features of herpangina include a sudden high fever and, in some instances, seizure. In rare cases, sores develop on the hands, feet or other parts of the body.

When to see a doctor

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is usually a minor illness. It typically only causes fever and mild symptoms for a few days. Call your health care provider if your child is younger than six months, has a weakened immune system, or has mouth sores or a sore throat that makes it painful to drink fluids. Call your provider, too, if your child's symptoms don't improve after 10 days.

HFM disease is substantially less serious in kids above age 5. It's already mild in kids 5 or under, but milder than the cold in teenagers and they will often have 1 cold sore and maybe a mild rash on their feet.

The problem here is that there are tons of other contagious/infectious diseases and it should be more about the seriousness/morbidly and mortality/lethality of the disease that weighs as much or more than simply whether it's "contagious." If we get into the habit of postponing or canceling games for contagious illnesses that are very mild in nature, then we could cancel a whole lot of games because contagious diseases are ALWAYS in play and on the table in every high school in America. Strep throat is contagious. Ringworm is actually contagious. They aren't generally that serious (same thing for hand, foot, moth disease) so we don't cancel games for them. Same for flu.

Maybe not making fun, but definitely questioning what's wrong with the general mindset in such a small community that less than probably 2% of the "fans" are ruining the night for the law abiding fans and students. It takes a village doesn't it? Maybe it's time for some in the NU community to take some of those troublesome ones to the wood shed...like we used to do back in the 80's instead of making constant excuses for their poor behavior today. It's not a joke. It's pitiful. It's speaks poorly on such a small rural community. It's disgusting. It's embarrassing. It's not a joke. But...here we are...letting big government dictate what's acceptable and who's allowed to be offended and who has a real voice...everyone else just have a seat and accept the anarchy. Right? I mean....let's just make jokes about it....

I know little about football down in eastern/central eastern VA with the NND and that area, but it does seem like there is a lot of games canceled down there or postponed in that area. Maybe they are all justified in doing so, but it does seem like a whole lot.

100% agree.

Obviously, I am against all of these cancellations.

It's gotten much worse since the covid lockdowns.

I was speaking with someone today about the massive gate Northumberland lost by not having the Essex game. Plus, college scouts were said to be coming and may have noticed some of the other kids from either team.

It would have been the biggest gate and concession sales in years for NHS as people wanted to see the two highest College Football recruits in the history of the NND face off....

I am sure that gate was really needed after the covid lockdowns cost athletic departments everywhere much needed revenue for a couple years.

Unfortunately, when there's no real threat of consequences for such poor behavior (because some are turning a blind eye), or actually when they (trouble-makers) aren't bothered by the potential punishment or the possibility of causing physical harm to innocent people, this is risk. College recruiting isn't a concern however. In todays recruiting world, that's done in camps and invitationals. Very little actual "live" recruiting takes place on a high school football field anymore.
The saddest part is the young athletes that have worked so hard to prepare for the game and they are denied the ability to show off in front of their friends, family and fans because of a bunch of uncivilized, self-centered jackwagon, derelicts that are destined to be wards of the state eventually.
It's stupid.....and anyone that "defends" their behavior needs to be taken to the wood shed also....

"Just do the right thing......"

Life is really that damn simple....seriously...it's all about choices, not excuses.
Thank you Coach Roger Brookes....who knew that I'd still be hearing your voice 40 years later?
