Riverheads spotted Luray an early 3-0 lead, then scored the next eight points and never looked back as they rolled to a surprisingly easy 50-32 win over the Lady Bulldogs. The two teams had split regular season games with RHS winning by one at Luray but losing by 6 in Greenville, so for that reason, Luray might have been expected to be the more confident team coming into tonight.
But once the Lady Gladiators got the lead, they steadily built it up, leading by 9 at the half and stretching it to double digits by early in the fourth quarter. Luray closed to within 7 at 39-32 early in the period but RHS scored the last 11 points of the game.
Blake Bartley led the scoring with 16, but Christa Arehart was a sparkplug as the floor general and Emma Casto ruled the boards to give RHS a strong all-around attack.
Next up for Riverheads is a 1-A East Regional quarterfinal on Wednesday. The belief at the game tonight and mentioned elsewhere on this board is that RHS is the number 4 seed and will host Mathews. But one poster on here says that the "official" pairings have the Gladiators TRAVELING to Mathews as a number five seed. That kind of confusion is normal in these playoffs so I guess we will all just keep our eyes and ears open for the official OFFICIAL standings.
