Lafayette vs King George

Game stopped at half due to weather. Score was 14-14

I saw this on NFHS and it looked like 2 very good teams IMO. I know it was only one half but put both these teams in the conversation for class 3 & 4. What Phoebus did yesterday though… Wow!

That fumble just before the end zone with a minute in the half was disappointing! Interesting to see when 2nd half is played . Another long haul!!

I haven’t heard from my end yet anything but I was thinking of continuing this Tuesday at around 6pm. Leave here around 3, 2nd half finished around 7:30, back in Williamsburg around 10:30. Lafayette is off 9/3 so that helps.

Does VHSL recognize ties? I read the rules the best I can (no expert) and games continue until a winner. I saw no mention of permanent ties.
I don't think it's been an issue since they adopted OT. I tried to find something on it too but didn't see anything. It's going to be interesting to see what VHSL does if the game is not completed.

I wonder why they scheduled for Sat night instead of Friday night? Maybe so Lafayette didn't have to leave school early? If they wanted to play Saturday, looking at a weather forecast would have told you it needed to be in the morning or afternoon. The storms weren't unexpected. When JM/Stafford had to suspend their game Friday night, they played Sat morning at 1000.

Lafayette school doesn’t start until Monday, September 3. I believe they rescheduled due to KG had a covid player and the quarantine didn’t lapse until Saturday. The call for the morning/afternoon on Saturday would have been a KG call, as the weather was fine all day & evening here and I was unaware of any potential bad weather until the announcement at the half for suspension. I was surprised to say the least.

68-3-1 Postponed or Suspended/Interrupted Games-Postponed or suspended games must be rescheduled for the same evening or the afternoon of the next calendar date, except for Sundays and except for extenuating circumstances approved by the district chairman if both schools involved are within the same district. If it is not a district contest, the VHSL Executive Director will rule on the extenuating circumstances. Friday games would be re- scheduled for Saturday; Saturday for Monday; and Monday for Tuesday.

54-9-1 Interrupted or Suspended Games/Events-Unless otherwise specified in this Handbook, games that are suspended/interrupted for reasons such as darkness, artificial light failure, rain, malfunction of irrigation systems, or any other cause that interferes with play such that the game is stopped by officials prior to having reached "complete game" status (as defined by each sport's rule book) shall be resumed from the point of interruption unless both schools agree to accept the score at the time of the interruption as final. See the appropriate sport-specific section of this Handbook for detailed procedures for that sport.

I’m struggling to find out where it states what constitutes enough completion to declare a completed game.

Also, I can’t find how ratings points are decided for “in-state ties.

Thanks DP. That would mean the game would be played Monday but that is the first day of school here. Williamsburg just this year started before Labor Day. I wonder how that complicates it. Haven’t heard yet so it doesn’t seem a slam dunk decision,

I can hear the Old Monday Night Football music theme in my head right now!!! I Hope the KG band knows it. The teams deserve hearing that!!! I would love me some MNF HS level stuff!!

Well, tonite’s game for the 2nd half resumption per Lafayette AD 39 minutes ago is now cancelled due to bad weather forecasted. Should play here , weather perfect. Each side gets a home “game”. Play now gets awfully close to KG key game Friday against Massaponax.

They need to play tomorrow and then KG & Massaponax should play Saturday. I think Lafayette is off this weekend, right @Lafayette

I forget if it's a state or a national rule, but a game can be declared "official" after the completion of one half. And the "next day" part is regularly used as 'guidance", not as a rule.

In-state ties - no provision exists.
Heck, out-of-state had no provision for YEARS until I pointed it out to them a few years back.

NFHS rules state that a game that starts and is not completed due to issues beyond administration's control AND is not finished at a later date is final at the point that the game is stopped. No halftime provision. No anything provision. So this would be a tie under NFHS rules unless the VHSL has a policy in place. NFHS rules 3-1-4.
