Lancaster 78, Mathews 45 boys final...

Charlie Henderson with the one hand dunk on the defender!!!
Lancaster has been Mathews Achilles heal this year.....AND, without Elijah Willis (knee injury) at point guard for the Blue Devils, I say their year was over before they started this game.....Coaching change mid-year certainly didn't help either.....all things considered, Lancaster is hard to beat because their bench is deep.....pick "any" five players off their bench and they will be able to play with anyone in D1.....A Blue Devil fan giving credit where it is due.....good luck NND.

Never having seen Lancaster play, I can't comment, but Mathews looked pretty darn good to me on Tuesday night, injury or no injury, and I knew nothing about a coaching change. I guess what this means is that you guys down there will have your basketball dominance for a while and we will keep doing what we do up here in football. Maybe baseball will be the deciding factor later this year!

Coaching was an improvement - without a doubt.
Wouldn't go so far as to say that....taking charge of a winning team (9-3 at the change loses to Gloucester, Lancaster and King William) is not such a difficult task. This is pretty much the same team that finished 2nd in Conference 42 last year and went toe to toe with #1 Altavista in the first round of the regional tournament losing (if memory serves me well) by eight in a nail biter.

Not even close. There's a reason he's not coaching. Not saying he's the best coach around but there is absolutely no comparison.

The interim had the varsity job once before....do a little research and see how that went. The reason for the change is just internal school district politics. The bottom line for varsity coaches is "you have to win." and Forrest wins....football, basketball, and track.

Hilarious, do some research yourself. Politics has nothing and I mean nothing to do with it.

What has he won? A Tidewater district (worst district in state) title with easily the best player in the league and one of the best overall athletes in 1A. Sorry, doesn't impress me. Heck, the soccer team won the district last year in large part bcuz of Stuart playing.

You must be related.

1. Nope. No relation....known the man a long time though. One of the kindest people I know. 2. Mathews is not a basketball mecca and, one player does not make a team no matter how good if the rest of the team has average ability. 3. Go to MHS and ask to see all the trophies he has placed in the show case over the years and coach of the year plaques he has hanging on the wall. 4. Doesn't have to impress you. And 5. If you are not aware that his suspension is more about his superiors covering their own behinds, then you're not as close to the situation as you think. Why are they still paying him to sit at home if what he's accused of is so egregious? Don't be surprised if you see him back on the job in a few weeks.
