Lebanon goes to 6 and 0 and led 50-7 at halftime over Richlands. Lebanon's schedule gets tougher the last 4 games as they go to Rural Retreat who is very good and only lost to George Wythe by 10 points, then Graham comes to town and they finish the last 2 on the road at Virginia High and at Tazewell.

Richlands falls to 0-6 and hasn't won a football game in nearly 2 years dating back to mid Oct of 2022 and they have won only 3 football games since November of 2021.

What the heck has happened to Richlands?!? They were a consistent state contender just a few years ago.

3 reasons.

1. Greg Mance, their coach left (Mance-legendary coach) and that coincided with a

2. talent dropoff and that coincided with

3. the return of Graham. 3 key events. Graham had lost their Hall of Famer Glynn Carlock around the mid 2000s (Coach Carlock died) and that led to Graham having arguably its roughest 8 stretch in the history of their school. Graham found the right coach and lots of the local McDowell County, WV, kids started transferring to Graham instead of Richlands. McDowell County, WV, is the poorest County in the United States and for a good 20 to 25 years, many of these kids would transfer to get out of that school system to the likes of Richlands, Bluefield High, WV, Princeton High WV, Graham, and Tazewell. Richlands dominated that transfer link from 2004 to about 2016, and since then, Graham has dominated it.

All 3 of the above reasons are why Richlands has had a dropoff and they were the perfect storm (no pun intended to Richlands) as they happened at the same time. When Richlands was rolling, the occasional top athlete from Honaker or Tazewell would also transfer there. That has stopped and the Tazewell kids stay at home and some Richlands kids have even transferred to Honaker over the past 5 years. Richlands seemingly has a long way to go before turning it around.
