Leemen pull off second straight upset to win their third Shenandoah District boys basketball tournament championship in a row. Lee will host Strasburg in the first round of Region 2B playoffs on Tuesday

I think their record is a little deceiving....they've lost a lot of close games this year.
Lee only returned 3 players off the varsity team last season, and they were not players with lots of minutes. Most of the team are juniors up from the undefeated JV team. They are starting to play better after a inconsistent regular season, especially closing out games.

Wasn't there another player that started last season but wasn't on the team this year?

Next year looks promising...

Yes. Lee can be a state tournament team this season if they limit the turnovers and just hold their own on the boards. They don't have a lot of interior size and their strength is perimeter play, led by Battle. If he is on his game and not turning it over, Lee might make the final 8.

Compared to year's past, this year's field - overall - doesn't look nearly as strong.

Radford is probably the favorite, with East Rock, Martinsville, Dan River and Gate City (IF Ervin is back) in the mix as well.

I don't really know enough about the east coast - Region A teams - to comment on their chances.

Even though this has not been a typical Lee season, it looks like they have a good chance of making the state tournament - they may have gotten hot at the right time.

But the Region II tournament looks wide open - lots of teams capable on any given night.

I agree! It looks like Radford and East Rockingham in the 2A final, with Radford being the overall team to beat. If Ervin returns I might give a slight edge to gate city over Martinsville in the final 4. From the east, besides ER, Goochland might be the favorite to also reach the final 4, but not as much as Martinsville in the west. The east is more wide open I think. The west is Radford and martinsville, with gate city maybe, depending on Ervin.

This is more than likely the Region A Semifinals.....

#1 Goochland,
#4 Brunswick

#2 Bluestone
#3 Greensville

In today's Bristol Herald Courier, when asked about Ervin, Coach Vermillion hinted that he might be back next week .
