Essex D shut out Sussex as well. The 8-0 score was off of a pick 6. Essex D technically shut out Franklin. Franklin score against special teams on a fake punt.
franklin is rebuilding this year they have a lot of young guys im looking for them to go 6-4 or maybe 5-5 they have a tough conference. I sat an watched that franklin game from a distance franklin could have scored on Essex defense a couple times but they shot themselves in the foot when I got to the game it was 14-6 franklin had the ball driving in the red zone and turned the ball over Essex came down and scored made it 22-6 franklin got the ball and started driving again and turned the ball over again in Essex territory and if it was not raining so hard the game would have been closer. Its hard to push bigger guys around sliding across the field franklin smaller lineman would have had a better chance on dryer land. This is just my opinion so don't bite my head off Essex is good but they wont go far in the east everybody knows who the top two teams are in the east so im not going to do any name calling (hint) both wear RED.
I know I was there. Woodlayer, not so sure about one of the red teams, they basically tied Essex, with the difference being an ill advised screen pass that turned into a pick 6. Yes they both have good defenses, but there is another team that has a good d this year as well. Good luck to all
What you seem to be forgetting is that Essex had turnovers in the Franklin game too. You said " if it was not raining so hard the game would have been closer. Knowing that rain was coming that Friday, if Franklin coaches were worried about playing in the rain, they should have changed the game to Thursday like a lot of other schools. I asked an asst. coach early Thursday if the game was still on for Friday. He said he guess so because they had not heard anything from Franklin to switch to Thursday. Essex played in the same rainy conditions as Franklin.
If anything the rain should benefit a power running team like Franklin more than a spread team like Essex. Both teams played in the same conditions as well. Honestly even if it was a dry field, I don't think it would have been much difference. As for who the best teams out East are, it's hard to say. Essex and Sussex played in a defensive struggle, Sussex just made the key play in the game. But if they were to meet again, and I think they will at some point, it could be a different result. Still too early in the season for anyone to be making trips to Salem, especially when injuries or other factors could play a huge role, especially at the 1A level where so many kids play both ways.
If you know anything about franklin broncos football coach parker is not going to shy away from anything rain sleet hail or snow he playing. He will not make excuse and neither am I we know Essex was the better team that night im just saying that the final score looks worst than what it really was it could have easily been 42- 24 or even 42-30 pending two point conversions were made. It was the first game franklin will bounce back just like Essex bounced back from that Sussex loss.
You veteran posters here know how it goes. When the team you're pulling for loses it could always have been closer and when the team you're pulling for wins it the final score could've been worse! depends on what glasses through which you are viewing the game. 
Franklin had double the time of possession as Essex, yet took them 56 carries just to get 143 yards rushing. The one fake punt early on contributed to a third of their offense. Nothing personal against Franklin but this year they aren't on Essex level. Will be interesting to see how the game this week with Colonial Beach goes.

Really win lose or draw im ride with my team but Essex will not get past the top two teams In the east Im just being honest.
Is this a trick question lol because obviously its rhetorical Im not going to give in to this one but you already know the answer to this question (but I will give you a hint just to help you out They played each other for the state title last year)
