Austin Katstra dunks with 1 second remaining to give Albermarle the win!!!!!!!
A game-winning dunk by
Austin Katstra with one second remaining on the clock gave Albermarle a 54-53 win over Varina in the 8th annual Virginiapreps.Com classic. Kastra (6-foot-6) received the inside pass and decided to throw it down instead of going for the inside layup. He finished with 19 points nine rebounds and six blocks.
Albermarle took the early lead and led 27-23 at halftime thanks to a torrid 12 of 18 shooting from the field. Kastra and
Grant Kersey led the way with seven points each. The Patriots pushed the lead to five 30-25 in the 3rd quarter
Varina has stormed back to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. Trailing 30-25, Varina goes on a 7-2 run to take their first lead since the 1st quarter. A three by
Michael Williams Jr cut the lead to 32-31 and minutes later, a stickback by junior
Kenneth Southerland gave Varina a 33-32 lead. Vincent Langhorne's basket made it 35-32 with 2:45 to go.
After a slow third quarter, Katstra started to find his way inside scoring two inside baskets to put the Patriots up three with a little more than two minutes to go. Southerland made two free throws and
Anthony Taylor stole a pass that
Vincent Langhorne converted into two points with a stickback and the lead.
Southerland grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with a basket off the backboard to put Varina up 53-52 with only eight seconds remaining. He finished the afternoon with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard
Myles Adams-Yates was fouled and he makes both free throws to give Albermarle the lead 52-51 with 1:09 to go.
With under 10 seconds to go, Southerland grabbed an offensive rebound and scores off the backboard to put Varina up 53-52 with only eight seconds remaining. That set the stage for Katstra's dramatic game-winning dunk.
