Blog LIVE Blog - Indian River (7-0) at Oscar Smith (7-0)

Tensions are running high now. During an incomplete pass by Oscar Smith's Cam Kelly, Tigers left tackle Omega Williams and Braves DE Lincorey Lucas are wrapped up in a bit of a mini shoving match. They call an unsportsmanlike penalty on each. Hey, since both are juniors, we'll see that matchup again next year, and both have scholarship offers, so there's a chance they could square off again on Saturdays in the future.

It appears that Williams has either been tossed or is heading to the bench. If it's his 2nd unsportsmanlike of the day - and I believe it is - he's done. Refs are talking it over with each and now they just spoke with a very unhappy Scott Johnson patrolling the Tigers sideline.

If indeed Williams is done, that changes things up front quite a bit. They're already had some protection issues, and now the likes of Ben Smiley, Kani Crite and others will look to tee off on Kelly - and possibly Harrell.

Ok, it appears that Omega Williams is back in for Oscar Smith at left tackle, so it was not his 2nd unsportsmanlike and just rather a cooling off.

Even with Williams back in, the Indian River pass rush is taking over this game as Ben Smiley hits Cam Kelly in the end zone, though Kelly was able to get the pass off in time to Jarius Howard. Problem for Oscar Smith is Howard only gained 3 yards and was drilled by Chantz Baylor - who transferred in a few weeks back from Princess Anne. Baylor has 6 total tackles today, 3 solo shots.

On 3rd & 12, Kelly's pass is short for his intended receiver. The Tigers will punt it away from their own 15.

To begin the 4th quarter, Indian River takes a shot with DeSean Cromwell matched up against Ricky Walker one-on-one, and the Braves draw a pass interference penalty that'll put them in Oscar Smith territory.

Carmello Sweat has shown some pop in the running game for Indian River, picking up 7 yards. On the next play though, it's the Smith defense with LB Malcolm Britt and two-way lineman Isaiah Mayes stopping him for no gain. Back-to-back incomplete passes result in the Tigers taking over.

A quick count by my pressbox colleague Rick Alliss from the ESPN Radio 94.1 High School Football Scoreboard Show -- he has Oscar Smith with just 88 total yards of offense today.

Brock got open on a deep post pattern behind the Indian River secondary. Oscar Smith has not been nearly as aggressive offensively as Indian River, but behind 18 points - or three scores - they have change up the philosophy just a little bit to get results.

The officials are now confused after the call and they have no idea where to place the football.

Personally, I think they got that one wrong and it should've been a turnover. But my opinion on the matter doesn't matter to the guys in stripes and we'll keep playing. They finally place the football at the 22-yard line of Oscar Smith, so half the distance to the goal on the roughing the passer penalty (to the 7), and then a 15-yard infraction moves the Tigers back.

A great job of getting open and making a play by Kenny Etheridge and tip of the cap to Cam Kelly for staying in there against that ferocious rush and delivering the strike.

Now a not so good moment for the Tigers to line up to go for 2, waste a time-out and then go for the 2-point try anyways. You want to make it a 2-score game with a touchdown, 2-point play and field goal opportunity, so you wait - in my opinion - to go for the 2 on the next TD potentially.

Making matters worse for Smith on the failed 2-point try after their 4th down touchdown is the fact they were called for a penalty that we believe will be enforced on the kickoff. At least that's what the clock operator to my right is telling me (though they are lining up to kick it off from their own 40... so maybe the Braves declined it or it was picked up, who knows). Tigers need their defense to force a quick 3 & out.

On the first play from scrimmage for Indian River on its 5th possession of the 2nd half with 6:08 remaining, the Braves fumble the ball with Carmello Sweat. Looked like it was Isaiah Mayes recovering and Deondre Davis forcing. So the Tigers have the ball suddenly at the 17 of Oscar Smith with 5:40 to play.

Do we have another magical comeback in the works for Oscar Smith?

On 3rd & 7 from the Indian River 14-yard line, Tigers QB Cam Kelly is dropped for a loss of 6 on a sack by Ah'Shawn Moore. The 4th down pass around the end zone is incomplete, broken up by Demetri 'Speedy' Payne of Indian River.

An 11-yard run from Alex Richardson followed by a 15-yard sideline warning penalty on Oscar Smith brings the Braves near midfield.

On 2nd & 10 from their own 46, the Braves try a pitch play and Richardson gains 2, but is knocked out of bounds by Horace Sawyer. Then Richardson gets no gain with Deondre Davis tackling him. The clock continues to run, ticking under 2 minutes left in the ballgame.

The rain has finally subsided a bit and we have Oscar Smith taking over at their own 27-yard line with the Tigers trailing 28-16 with 1:41 to play.

The pass on 1st & 10 is incomplete and then the second-leading receiver for the Tigers drops a ball he should've caught on second down. Now 3rd & 10 and Indian River can bring the house if they want. Ben Smiley with his 6th QB hurry out of about eight or nine for the team - not including their three sacks - on 3rd down.

The Tigers are just 9 of 26 through the air and 4th down, with the game on the line, upcoming...
