Greetings from the Virginia Beach Sportsplex as the top-seeded and undefeated Landstown Eagles (12-0) take on the #3 seed Oscar Smith Tigers (10-2) in the Class 6, Region A Championship.

These two schools have played for a regional title before. In fact, Landstown has won both meetings over Oscar Smith in the old Eastern Region Division 6 Championship round, winning on a two-point conversion stop in 2004 at Hickory High and beating the Tigers in 2005 at Norfolk State University.

Oscar Smith's lone two losses came in close ballgames - 28-21 to Vero Beach (FL) in the opener and 29-23 to King's Fork in the regular season finale. Meanwhile, Landstown has won several close games with five victories by six points or less, including 14-10 in the regional semis over Woodside.

The winner will take on the winner of Colonial Forge/Manchester in the next Saturday's State Semifinals.

Landstown's Joe White returns the game's opening kickoff 15 yards to the Eagles' 24-yard line.

Keshon Artis with a tackle for loss as Luqman Haskett loses 2 yards on the very first play from scrimmage. Artis is one of the best linebackers in the state and recently committed to Virginia Tech.

On their first series at the 10:30 mark of the opening period, beginning at their own 21, Oscar Smith goes 3 and out. They gained just 1 yard on a run from Khalid Wilson, while the other two passes were incomplete.

Interesting to note that one of Landstown's DB's Kyrien Idlebird is not in uniform tonight. Not sure if it's injured related or what, but nonetheless one of the few times the Eagles have been victimzed on a big play in the passing game this year. Idlebird had 4 INT's before tonight on the year.

Landstown goes 3 and out. Jalen Moore had a tackle for loss and the Eagles backed themselves on a play of their own doing with a false start.

The Eagles have come out very conservative offensively, with the exception of that 3rd & 17 when they targed Joe White down the sideline, he slipped a tackle and turn about a gain of 20 into 62 yards. They look a bit, dare we say, timid in this one.

Can't see the Oscar Smith defense coughing up a 17-point lead. This is by far the largest deficit Landstown has faced all year and most adversity the undefeated Eagles have seen.

Just a quick update on the Class 6, Region B Championship - Manchester has scored a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead on Colonial Forge eary in the second quarter.

Stats at the break...

Oscar Smith 24:
Dominique Brooks - 9-16 for 100Yds. 1-0TD/Int. ratio; 3Car. 3Yds.
Khalid Wilson - 13Car. 90Yds.
Cam Kelly - 5Car. 47Yds; 2Rec. 20Yds.
Keyton Watson - 6Car. 39Yds.
Jarius Howard - 2Rec. 50Yds. TD

Tigers - 43 plays for 279 total yards (9-16 for 100 pass yards; 27 rushes for 179 yards); 1 penalty for 10 yards; 1 turnover on lost fumble; 15 first downs

Landstown 0:
Brent Stukes - 3-12 for 68Yds.
Joseph White - 1Rec. 62Yds.
Luqman Haskett - 1Rec. 3Yds; 2Car. -2Yds; 6 Tackles, 0.5TFL
Denzel Lowry - 6 Tackles, 0.5TFL
Raekwon Witcher - 6 Tackles (3 Solo), 1.5TFL, Sack

Eagles - 20 plays for 57 total yards (3-12 for 68 pass yards; 8 rushes for minus 11 yards); 4 penalties for 20 yards; 2 turnovers on lost fumbles; 1 first down

Landstown drew a pass interference penalty on 4th & 16, but it's not an automatic fresh set of downs. On 4th & 1, the Eagles get called for false start. It was the 5th false start of delay game penalty of the night. So on 4th & 6, it is end up being incomplete.

One score away from a running clock here at the Sportsplex.

Have to give that Oscar Smith o-line from left to right some love - Omega Williams, William Daniel, Trey Sawyer, Isaiah Mayes and James Collins (UCF commit). They've been outstanding all night.

Keep in mind they are missing a key lineman too in Nidavion Toxey, a 1st Team All-State performer from a year ago who plays right guard.

Oscar Smith QB Dominique Brooks is getting his leg looked at on the trainer's table. In his place, Cam Kelly has taken over at QB. Quite honestly, it's not going to matter tonight, but could next week - likely at Colonial Forge (which leads Manchester 31-14 in 3rd quarter).

The Tigers have run 67 plays from scrimmage compared to just 31 plays by Landstown.

When the Eagles have decided to test the corners in one-on-one situation, Joe White has made a couple of nice grabs and plays after the catch. Problem is they've been too conservative and I'd say timid to a degree on offense. That's been the big problem to me for Landstown tonight.

Oscar Smith has now won eight region titles and third in a row under a different Head Coach. They did it in 2015 under Rich Morgan, last year under Bill Dee and this season under Scott Johnson.

Here are the teams they've beaten in those region title games...

2007 - defeated Salem-VB
2008 - defeated Ocean Lakes
2009 - defeated Woodside
2011 - defeated Salem-VB
2013 - defeated Colonial Forge
2015 - defeated Thomas Dale
2016 - defeated Colonial Forge
2017 - defeated Landstown
